My 5 yo(almost 6) was just diagnosed with an ear infection . She hasn’t had one in years. I didn’t think anything about it but DH thinks it’s unusual for a kid so old to get one
Is he right? Should we look into it further or worry? Idk

It’s when they get lots close together that you need to be concerned and look into it further. A random ear infection here and there is no big deal.

Normal. My mom still gets an ear infection every few years.

My 16 year old cousin gets them once or twice a year, usually around the time seasons are changing summer/fall and winter/spring.

I had one as an adult a couple years ago so I say normal!

My seven year old just got her first ear infection ever. The doctor said it happens and also how now their ears are more prone into infections

My son is 4, never really got ear infections when he was little, and now has gotten four ear infections back to back and is about to get tubes placed.

@MrsADS: I sure hope this isn't the route DD is about to go down..... but I guess we'll see. Her baby brother has had 2 sets of tubes and he's 2.5
I will say it is nice to have her be able to communicate what is hurting her. It was so much easier than playing the guessing game. She woke up, said her ear hurt, we went to dr, she told them and we got meds. hallelujah for communication skills of 6 yo vs baby!

@Ajsmommy: My son got his first ever ear infection last year his 4th week of Kindergarten (he had just turned 6). It was actually the first time he ever had to take antibiotics. It was weird. He had had a cold for a week or so and I guess the fluid just built up in his ear.
