What was the final deciding factor to get tubes put in your LOs ears? We are close to needing them for DD2 at 14 months. She's been battling constant ear infections for the last 3 months. What made you decide it was the right decision?

DD2 got them at 13 months. It was the same. We had constant ear infections for about 3 months and were on constant antibiotics and they just wouldn't clear. Even on the day we saw the ENT and they gave her antibiotic injections hoping to clear her ears before surgery (4 days later), her ears were no better at surgery time.
That was late December. I can say at 5 months later it was the right decision. We haven't had an ear infection since. She gets colds that don't slow her down. We trusted our ped and the ENT that we were referred to and followed their lead.
I will say the lead time for the ENT was long (4 weeks), but once we had that appt, getting surgery scheduled was quick.

Ours was a severe speech delay and tubes were the best thing we could have possibly done. Amazing night and day difference and no ear infections since. (Previously she had about 4/year but constant fluid in there. )

She'd had 5 ear infections in 4.5 months. The antibiotics "kinda" worked, but her ears never did get completely free of fluid. When she got the fifth ear infection, it was a no-brainer. We could tell they were never going to clear up with just antibiotics. And I'm so glad we did it, because by the morning of her tubes surgery she'd started on her SIXTH infection (and it was BAD!). She had the tubes surgery right around her first birthday.

Her ear drums were bursting cause she would show no signs of an infections. At the consult with the ENT, he said we could wait since she 21months and they start to fade for most kids at 2. I asked him what he would do if it was his kid. His response was I would have done them after the first rupture.

We haven't needed them but my poor niece did. I think the situation was similar to yours, she had recurrent infections for many months in a row. The tubes cleared her up and after they fell out, she actually had them replaced (I think twice?) because the infections would come back. They were really a lifesaver for her.

She had about 8 ear infections in 6 months, many back-to-back. Once we got the appointment the doctor just strapped her to a board with local anesthesia and did the tubes the same day. She went back to daycare that afternoon. It was awesome and so totally worth it!

The final straw was an ear infection that took three different antibiotics to finally clear, and then a week later, she was infected again. She was 10 months old. At 2.5 her tubes fell out and we were immediately right back to constant ear infections with fluid that never completely cleared, so we got round 2 of tubes. Both times they have been a game changer for us.

No experience here, but my niece got them around 18 months because she had constant ear infections and her ped was also concerned that she wasn't saying enough words for her age. They also tried giving her antibiotics via injection before surgery, but that didn't work.
So she got the tubes -- and the surgeon declared that she had so much gunky fluid in there that it never would have gone away on its own. Sure enough, her language exploded after the tubes. I think she's had at least 1 more infection since then, but it's awesome because my sister just gives her ear drops and the fluid drains out. It was the best decision for them.
Good luck with your decision.

5 ear infections (fluid never cleared) in 11 weeks -- total nightmare for my 2yo. After the third we got our ENT consult and scheduled the tubes, but he got 2 more infections in the 3.5 week wait for surgery!
Tubes went in last Friday and already it's a TOTAL game changer! He just seems so much happier, is sleeping better and talking a LOT more!
