DH has crohn's and really needs to watch his diet. He has to eat all bland food, so nothing spicy, with lots of sauce, etc. Anybody else have to do this? What do you eat.... extra points for recipes!

Ugh. We've been through so many diets in our house b/c of Hops' various issues. One was a soft foods diet, one was a minimalist diet but we never had to do bland.
Could you get some suggestions from a nutritionist to help you out? We got some tips from a friend of mine that helped with his diets.
Is this diet forever or just temporary until he heals from surgery?

@mediagirl: he's been to a nutritionist and it was pretty bad. Foods that work well for most people don't work for him, and people don't seem to get that. She had him eating nuts and berries, both things that hurt him, so of course that made everything worse. It's a forever diet. He had to eat this way before the colostomy but having the colostomy allowed him to have more variety with food. Now that the colostomy is reversed we're back to bland.

One of my favorites is rice cooked in orange juice. Don't know if oj causes any problems, but it seemed kind of simple to me and man does it taste good!

My little brother is 13 and has had some Crohn's like symptoms. I'm pretty clueless about the specifics. He's been to the hospital several times with no real understanding of what he ate that makes his stomach react the way it does. He basically only eats pasta w/ butter and a small sprinkle of parmesan cheese. The irony is that my mother is a nutritionist and can't seem to find good options. I feel for your husband. Is there anything that alleviate some of the symptoms?

@BabyLove: Hope they figure out what's going on with your brother! DH's crohn's began around age 16. He recently had surgery which should hopefully help him, but I want him to keep up with a good diet so it has a less chance of coming back.

Dh has pretty bad acid reflux and is supposed to stick to a bland diet as well. He used to eat ots of pasta with butter sauce, toast, bagels, brothy soups, yogurt, grilled chicken and mild fish (like tilapia and tuna fish). A big trigger for him was acidic stuff, like citrus fruits, red sauces/tomatoes, red wine, etc. Good luck--it can be so frustrating to try to find good stuff to eat with limited options.
