My LO had a strong need to suck. She would use me as a pacifier, fall asleep and would scream as soon as I unlatched her. So I either could give her the breast back or stick a pacifier in. I gave in to the pacifier so that my nipples wouldn't be sore all the time.

ETA: She usually spits it out within a minute or two of falling asleep.

We gave her one between 3-4 weeks. She's never really used it much, but she's starting to use it less and less. Now she only uses it occasionally when she's falling asleep in our arms. Even then she spits it out after a minute or two.

We introduced one at 5 weeks because half the time my son was using me as a pacifier instead of nursing to eat. It took awhile to find the right one (MAM worked for us) but it has been a big help.

LO is EBF, and she won't take a paci. I was anxious about giving her one in the beginning because I was afraid of nipple confusion, so I think I waited too long to introduce it. I think I first tried at around 8 weeks? She acts like it's the most disgusting thing ever when I try to give it her. She gags and makes a gross face. But I don't really mind that she doesn't take it, she's just uses her fingers instead!

I introduced it within the first week. she uses it to soothe herself when she goes down for naps and bedtime. She will ONLY take it when she is tired because now she associates it with sleep which is what we wanted. She is ebf and we never had any problems with breastfeeding.

I introduced a pacifier on about day 3, we are EBF and haven't any issues (despite inverted nipples and a high arched palate). Sawyer loves to suck, and gets angry when offered the breast when not hungry (probably because I overproduced in the beginning and being at the breast too much made him overfull and uncomfortable). Sawyer mostly uses it to fall asleep at this point, and we hope to wean it off at around 1 year of age.
