If your LO has eczema what kind of soap do you use for bathing?
LO had a rash on the back of her legs for a few months. We finally took her in this morning and DR said it's eczema. He prescribed a steroid (!!!) cream and suggested we started using Ivory Sensitive Soap. I'm afraid that will dry out her skin though?
He also said thoroughly drying her is very important.
Any other tips?

We used to use an OTC cream tecomended by our ped, but I didn't make a huge difference for her.
We use dove soap per our peds recommendation & I use lotion on her arms!

We didn't get any soap recommendations from the ped so we just use Honest company wash. We don't bathe every day. We also use Cerave as recommended by the pediatrician for daily moisture. When there is a flare up, we do the prescribed steroid, then lock it in with moisturizer when there is a flare up.

@locavore_mama: we use mustella wash and Burt's bees cream and least 2x a day and aquaphor once. Also only wash him every other bath or every third bath. He had milk related eczema for awhile and that has cleared mostly but we all have extremely dry skin living in the desert.
Eta we have the aveeno eczema wash as well but I actually have found the mustella works better for T.

Dove scent/dye free soap (this is for me). I just bought Aveeno Eczema lotion yesterday, and seems to be doing the trick! My doctor said I could use tea tree oil diluted with water.

Also, that site says to gently pat dry and moisturize within this first few minutes of bathing.

@locavore_mama: We use Episcencial body wash.
Also my DS had really bad eczema until age 4 when it finally disappeared!
His allergist told us to do a warm bath, lightly dry him off and apply Vaseline - it was messy but boy did it work!!! Vaseline was the only thing that kept it at bay - in the winter months I had to slather his arms, legs and back in it!

We use cetaphil and sometimes mustela lotion (they have a special line for eczema). We notice RIGHT AWAY if we use the wrong product, the hives (or whatever they're called) are immediate. Try to avoid steroids unless really necessary.

Thankfully, M's is not that bad. It is just localized right now to the back of her left knee. Although I have noticed her skin is a bit more bumpy lately. My nephew had REALLY REALLY bad eczema so I have seen how bad it can get!
@mamimami: I'm not sure where the point of absolutely necessary is? She's had these spots on the back of her knees for over 2 months now. It's always there and some days it's redder than others. But it doesn't bother her; ie she doesn't itch them, etc.

DD only has eczema on her face. We use the gentle Cetaphil to wash her face and the Aveeno creamy moisturizing wash for her body during the winter (and the normal Aveeno during warmer months).
Hands down, the best cream I have found is this:

@Mamaof2: did you use the Vaseline at night? Just leave it on? Chloe's arms are worse in the winter, too! Did you put a long sleeved shirt over top so it didn't rub off? Curious about trying this since you said it worked so well!

We use Aveeno baby creamy wash (fragrance free) in the bath. Our pediatrician said don't let him soak more than 10 minutes, and lotion him up quickly after the bath (to trap some of the moisture from the bath water). We use Eucerin eczema relief lotion and sometimes vaseline as well on extra dry spots. I also keep LO's fingernails smoothly filed so if he scratches he doesn't tear up his skin as much. We have a prescription steriod ointment but it doesn't help much. Our pediatrician said it's best to keep him well moisturized to prevent flare ups. It's hard to clear the spots once they appear.

@locavore_mama: To me if it doesn't itch or bother her, I would hesitate. But if a few days of hydrocortisone makes them go away and stay away, it might be worth it.

DS has extremely dry skin, and the pedi prescribed him a steroid ointment as well. It immediately clears up his face!
We use aquaphor on this face and anywhere he's extra dry on his body.

We use CeraVe moisturizing cream (not lotion) to manage our boys' eczema. It works amazing! I hardly ever have to use the steroid cream on them because regularly using CeraVe totally keeps it at bay. It's sold OTC.

LO has patchy eczema and we use CA baby super sensitive wash, and I only use it on her every other bath (sometimes every third bath, and just use soap on her hands in between.)
The derm we saw also stressed using enough lotion - I slather her up in Cetaphil and CeraVe lotion, which has helped a lot. Usually I only need to dab on her steroid cream like once every other week or so.

My LO also has eczema on his legs and my friend is a dermatologist. She highly recommended lathering him up with Vaseline (plain not baby scented) each night before putting on his footie PJs. She said it seals in the moisture very well. And makes their skin feel great, too! Most, (but not all) eczema is caused by dry skin, apparently.

Not on my LO, but for me personally, plain Vaseline helped a TON as a child. That, along with luke-warmish baths (not hot), patting dry rather than rubbing, and lotion/Vaselien right away, really helped. Now that I'm older, I've found that extra virgin coconut oil has been wonderful for my arms and legs, and has far fewer (i.e. no) extra chemicals. I still keep my showers medium-warm and pat dry.

Another fan of the Mustela eczema wash and lotion. If he has one spot that flares up, then I just put a little hydrocortisone on it for a couple of days and it clears. I definitely make sure to dry him off well and seal in his lotion with Aquaphor on the dryer areas.

Ah, E has eczema. The steroid cream cleared it up and we haven't had to use it since.
I use Aden& Anais body wash on her and then use Cetaphil cream on her body. Aquaphor just felt nasty and greasy, but I'll dab it on the really dry spots sometimes.

We've been dealing with this for a few months now and I finally found a soap I like- Little Twig unscented. We moisturize with Eucerin a couple times a day until it goes away.

We just use mustela soap but we have Hydrolatum lotion that our Ped recommended and it has made a huge difference! I got it at the pharmacy but it's OTC.

LO just had an eczema flare up. We started using California Baby Super Sensitive wash because we had it. Our pediatrician recommended Vanicream which I quickly became a huge fan of. That in combination with a prescription hydrocortisone cream cleared it up in about 3 days. I am still using Vanicream on her 3 times a day.
