We had a blood test done at 12 weeks that told us the gender. Could you do that instead? I think it would be much more reliable than an ultrasound at that point.

I had one at 15 weeks, they gave me a 99% accuracy that it was a girl and they were right. They said they can tell as early as 13 weeks.

Are you having the NT ultrasound done at 12 weeks? ( I can't remember if you are or not!) If your tech has good equipment and gets a side shot, the nub theory is pretty accurate and is a good way to tell. It was right for my DD and right for this one!

@Bluebonnet: The blood tests aren't always covered by insurance, and sometimes are only offered to women over 35.

@NurseDMB: I went yesterday, and I'm 15 weeks today. We saw clear as day that we were having a boy!

We didn't go to one or those ultrasound places but had an US at 16 weeks at my regular OB appt because DD's heartbeat wasn't being picked up on the Doppler. I wasn't concerned because I could feel her moving but they still wanted to do one.

It was just the portable machine so not high quality at all but it was super obvious she was a girl - both DH and I knew it but my midwife wouldn't confirm until the official gender/anatomy scan.

@2PeasinaPod: @NurseDMB: I was offered a gender blood test as part of the NT scan/first trimester scan when I was pregnant with LO1 in 2011 (and not high risk). I had to pay out of pocket, but it was only $50.

I know the fetal DNA tests are very expensive and not always covered by insurance.

I suggested the blood test because of its high accuracy rate. I'm a little leary about early ultrasounds because I know three people that were told the incorrect gender at an early ultrasound (one was told she was having a boy to find out it was a girl and two friends were told they were having girls to later find out they were having boys)!

We did one at 16 weeks to confirm what they already saw at the 12 week ultrasound. He was still a boy! The place was really nice and professional.

I had one each time and they could tell right away that it was a boy both times.
