I’ve been temping this cycle, but my temps are all over the place! I was on Clomid this cycle so I was really hoping I would O this time! I didn't use OPK’s this cycle, but next time I will.
If you temp, have you had a cycle where you confirmed O with OPK or some other method, but your temps were all over the place?

Yes. OPKs can force an O, and EWCM can also create cross hairs (they may be dashed if you don't have temps to confirm though)
Ope circles instead of dots are usually from temping at erratic times. Were your times not consistent?
ETA: by "force an O" i meant force a cross hair of course. It's not like we have to see it on FF to actually O

@MaryM: I thought I was temping pretty consistently. I would always get 3 solid hours before I temp. But the only thing is that I wake up in the middle of the night quite often, so sometimes I would temp at like 3 AM, and other times I would wait till 6-7

That could explain the erratic temps then.
I think TCOYF says each hour your temp rises (on average of course) about .2 degrees. If you look at the early temps and adjust for that, you might very well see a rise.
Usually if I wake up at 3 or 4, I'll temp, but then see if I can't get another 3-4 hours of sleep and temp again at my usual 7. I'll only use the earlier temp if I can't get back to sleep.

@MaryM: Well that is really interesting!! I had no idea that temps would differ that much....
Well I think from now on I'm just going to try and hold off until I wake up in the morning then so have it be the most accurate.

No problem!
I think FF wants temps to generally be within a one hour window or they'll give the open circles.

@MaryM: Ok now, dumb question. Does it just remember what time you enter it into the app from your phone? Because I never put in my temp on my phone right after I temp. I normally either try and go back to sleep, or just lay in bed.

When you put in your temp, it defaults to the current time. If you temped earlier, you should also adjust the time.

@MrsBrewer: I'm not the strictest when it comes to the same time that I temp. But, even so, I've still been able to determine O on my chart (or FF has). Was this your first time on Clomid and what dose were you on?

@LindsayInNY: Yes, this was my first time on Clomid, and I think I was at the lowest dose.....50? does that sound right?

@MrsBrewer: From what I know, doctors usually start people off at 50mg to see if they respond (depending on the situation). For example, I O naturally so it's unlikely the RE will up my dose. However, if you have PCOS, it might take a higher dose of Clomid for your body to respond and O. Since you're at CD32 and your chart doesn't look like you Oed, I'd be willing to bet you didn't and the 50mg wasn't enough. Did your doctor give you any instructions about AF? Or what if AF doesn't arrive?

The month I got pregnant, using Clomid, my temps were all over the place. I'm not sure if it was just user error or what, but obviously I Oed, because here I am 15+ weeks pregnant.

@LindsayInNY: Correct, I have PCOS. My doctor said to wait until CD42 and then to make sure to test of course, and then start Provera to induce my period. My period will then normally start on CD55 (on the dot). Sometime between CD 42 and CD 55 I am to go in and have an ultrasound done to see if I have developed any cysts? Gosh I don't remember the specifics. But I think in that same appt I'm going to mention about possibly switching to an RE.

@MrsBrewer: That makes sense. Sounds like he's waiting until CD42 just to ensure you're not pregnant. It probably can't hurt to ask about switching to a RE. A RE can monitor you when you're on Clomid to see if you're responding, how well, and can adjust the dose as necessary. Good luck

@LindsayInNY: Thank you! This morning I got what I thought was a very very very faint positive (but I didn't check the PG test until 3 hours later....) I posted it in the Sept POAS board. I have a feel I might be either seeing things, or its just an evap. I just tested again on lunch and it was completely white.
I was just wondering everyone's experiences with temps and O dates!

@MrsBrewer: I can't speak to the meds or monitoring, but as for temping & FF, I often take my temps in the middle of the night, too--anywhere between 1a-7a, but at least after 3h of sleep. I get lots of open circles, but since I also use a secondary method (opks), I do always get crosshairs & confirmation of O. If you can enter any other indicators of O (CM, opks, saliva test for ferning, etc), FF has an easier time confirming O. I imagine being monitored since you're on meds & have pcos would be the best solution, though. Best of luck!

@GoGoSnoGirl: I plan on using OPK's next cycle! I might be naive but I feel like I have literally no change in CM at all. I tried tracking it, but it was always the same. I never got the clearly EWCM. Maybe next cycle with a higher dose of Clomid! Thanks for your input!

@MrsBrewer: well, def depends on which you use. I splurge & buy CBE digital or First Response (simple line) opks. I haven't had too much trouble reading them, just my own body's variation that can be frustrating. With opks it can be challenging to assess the comparison between the two lines, that is true, whereas with pg tests any line is good news.
