DS's birthday is quickly approaching and we have decided to have the party at a free admission amusement party that is about 40 minutes away from our home. I'm looking to order the invitations and am undecided on what time to have the party. Would 5pm be unreasonable? Most parties we have had are 1-3 or around, but DS naps from about 1-3:30pm and I'd like to avoid birthday madness/skipped nap melt down mode. Those in attendance will probably be mostly family and our friends, my husband stays at home with him so he doesn't have too many friends his age yet. Having it later l also mean it's cooler out and we can enjoy the park all lit up for the nighttime lights and such. His bedtime is usually anywhere between 8-9:30, so I'm not too concerned there. I am the worst at knowing party etiquette, is this going to get me side eyes?

@ZombieBullfrogHoller: I think it's ok. Most party venues near us have a 4-6pm time slot and it works great. We did my old daughter's birthday at that time last year and it was perfect.

That sounds like it will work well for your family so I wouldn't worry about it!

@ZombieBullfrogHoller: When LO was 3 her party started at 5.30pm Most people are ok with that because the party wraps up in an hour and half and the kids basically get their dinner at the party.

I think as long as you have dinner it should be fine!

You would need to serve dinner, and just recognize that others with kids might not be able to come. My 3.5 year old could handle that, but my 7 month old couldn't, so either one parent would take our older kid, or we would all just pass, it would depend on how close we were to the birthday kid.

As long as you serve dinner (and at a reasonable time), I think it's fine. Our goddaughter's 2nd birthday was 5-7 at a local kids pool place and it was good. We left early, but our daughter wasn't even a year old at the time.
The same child's 3rd birthday was at their house and started at 5:30, but they didn't serve dinner until after 7 and the only food available before dinner were chips and spicy Mexican candy. That wasn't a good night for us.
