@Mrs Green Grass: I've changed her, and then felt something in between my fingers, looked down, and it was a tiny poop crumb!

Poop can give you (or people you serve food to) fecal poisoning! Please be careful!!
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
I always wipe off w/ her baby wipes...But somehow it sticks to me!?!?
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@PrincessBaby: I scrub up after diaper changes! It really helps!!
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Nope, but I always wash my hands after I change poop diapers . I've shrugged off getting peed on, though...sometimes I don't bother changing.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
LOL!!! I got pooped on this morning and ended up doing the diaper change in the tub. And then gave him a bath and washed my hands over and over. I hate poop.

Um, no. I always wash my hands after diaper changes. If I'm in a hurry or she's needy, I have hand sanitizer in the changing table organizer. That's nasty.

Lol! I read this thread title and laughed out loud!
I am a poop crumb a phobic! I sniff my hands about a million times after diaper changes because I'm so afraid I have poop crumbs!
GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts
Bhahahahahaha! This is a hilarious thread. I hate poop, especially solids poop, it's the worst poop ever.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
LOL! No not yet, I've always spied it on my fingers before finishing the diaper change. Give it time though : )

Coxsackievirus is no laughing matter.
I've heard of it at daycare and wonder how it's even possible this disease gets passed bc it's passed by contact with fecal matter, saliva, mucus, etc.

Kids at daycare have gotten this and they've gone to bleaching everything nightly until it passes. And I for one as a parent was scared $hitless my newborn would get it.

I know you were worried about unvaccinated family members coming near H.....
I fear that not washing after poopy diaper changes is probably more detrimental to everyone's health than not getting a flu shot.

the other night I was bathing DS, got him out and in a big fluffy towel aaaaaand he peed straight through the towel and all over me! nice

EWWWW!
Washing your hands after EVERY (pee and poop) diaper change with soap and water is just basic personal hygiene! It really only takes a couple minutes, and it could safe you and your baby from getting seriously ill.

Eek, no. But I did drop a giant blob of LO poop on the bathroom floor as I was emptying her diaper this morning.. It's a good thing I was planning to scrub that bathroom today anyway.
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
Nope, I always wash my hands really well after I change LOs diaper. I even sing to LO about cleaning my hands as I wash them, it's to the tune of "Big Pimpin'" but I change the words.
coconut / 8279 posts
@littlek: almost spat out my coffee! if your rendition of 'Big Pimpin' has to do with poopin', I think we're singing the same song, hahahaha
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@littlek: That's hilarious!
Just to clarify- I use the wipes to scrub my hands bc I don't want to pick her up with hands that haven't been tended to in order to walk to the bathroom sink to wash, and I don't want to leave her wiggle worm self on the changing table alone while I go to the bathroom sink...I also prefer wipes bc they are not as drying to my skin, which I tend to have problems with!

@PrincessBaby: I suggest stocking your bathroom with some quality lotion to use after each hand-washing. Wipes aren't as effective, I'm afraid.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
No, definitely wash your hands after changing poop or else you can spread diseases around!
coconut / 8854 posts
Please be careful, my best friend and her little one got very very sick from fecal contamination! The little one had a temp of 105, and my friend started shaking uncontrollably at one point, and she had a fever of 103! She had to go to the ER for fluids actually. She was dangerously sick for 2 weeks. Actually because of this illness her breastmilk supply completely tanked because she wasn't eating, and she had to wean early....

@MrsBrewer: agreed.
I really believe that something that can spread such harmful disease is no laughing matter. Making sure you scrub your hands clean after dealing with feces is common sense to me! I would be mortified to find out I visited someone's house who doesn't scrub their hands after changing a diaper - and quite honestly that would deter me from visiting again and perhaps even confronting them about it.
Princessbaby I'd hate to see Harper get sick from something so easily preventable.

With poopy diapers, I always use a wipe to wash off my hands before I put the new diaper on. Once new diaper on, I go to the bathroom and wash my hands (scrub) - LO is mobile and flips over like crazy so sometimes I put him on the floor rather than strap him to the table. Once I'm clean, i dress him. As others have mentioned, I'm really paranoid about poop contamination especially because my son is always putting everything in his mouth (including MY hands!)

I agree with those who said you need to scrub with soap and water. Wipes won't cut it. I always scrub after changing Jay's diapers. It's dangerous and gross, not too, in my opinion!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Jenn23: I missed that you had your baby boy - I haven't seen you much since the Weddingbee days - congratulations!!!!
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
No avoiding coxsackie when LOs get old enough to put their hands down their diapers!!! ;D
I only wash my hands after a bad poop blowout and otherwise use Purell or wipes (also don't feel comfortable leaving LO to wash my hands) and Wagon Jr. never contracted HFM, even when it went around his daycare. Or if he had it, it was so quick and mild that I never noticed it.
coconut / 8279 posts
@mrs. wagon: ever since DS started eating solids, his poos are a solid contained mass. I probably use more wipes than necessary on him, but I'm not touching that s! haha
And Babyganics foam sanitizer is awesome, btw
coconut / 8430 posts
@rachiecakes: I love the Babyganics foam sanitizer too! I keep a bottle in my diaper bag.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
@rachiecakes: omg we go through wipes like water. Not very environmentally friendly
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I also love the babyganics! Bogo free at BRU/tru right now!

When DS was 5 months old he had a blowout right as we needed to leave the house to go to daycare/work. I quickly cleaned him up and changed his clothes. When I got to work I realized I had gotten poop on my jeans. =/ At least it was breast milk poop so it didn't smell too bad and I was able to get it out with some water.
