We had our anatomy scan on Friday and it showed choroid plexus cysts. There weren't any other markers (his heart, femur, and kidneys all checked out great.) We have another ultrasound scheduled for 28 weeks to see if they cleared up. The tech and our OB werent concerned at all and said that they, on their own, don't indicate anything "abnormal" and are a common benign finding. I would just like to hear other Bees experiences.

It sounds like your OB and tech handled it well. My 1st ultrasound at 18 weeks also showed it and the dr at ultrasound office (not my regular OB) emphasized more all that could go wrong instead of it being a common finding with the advanced technology that we have now. My regular OB was not worried and said it was common to find with the technology we have today. I ended up getting the Materni21 test done then which revealed everything was fine. I also ended up having another ultrasound at 30 weeks because of gestational diabetes and the cyst was no longer present.

@simplyfelicity: our baby was also found to also have CPCs, but this was the only soft marker that was concerning. The u/s tech & Dr that saw us after also were calm & relatively unconcerned. We had also already had the cell free DNA screening test Verifi (like Harmony & Maternity21, I think) done before our anatomy scan, so that helped lessen the fears, too. We do have one more growth u/s scheduled for 29wks, so they'll look again then. The Dr said they usually resolve by birth, or at least by baby's 1yr birthday. I had found a few articles about medical research on the various soft markers & their significance that reassured me further, but I'm having trouble finding that article again today for some reason. Good luck to you & baby, hope that it really is nothing. It's hard not to worry, I know.

H was diagnosed with two bilateral choroid plexus cysts at my anatomy scan. My midwife said they are quite common, especially with the advances in ultrasound technology. Because of the cysts and another soft marker for Downs, I had two ultrasounds at the MFM office to check on them and they had completely resolved by 26 weeks. H is 16 months old and completely healthy.

We had some on our anatomy scan so they did a follow up sono at my next appt and they were gone. DD2 is a healthy 3 month old now! I remember how freaked out I was when we found out and how hard it was to wait for a follow up. Sorry you guys have to deal with it.

They are considered a normal variant, esp in girls. MFM doc said not to worry unless other screens abnormal. We had a repeat ultrasound for growth later at 32 weeks and they were resolved.

Two of my friends had babies with this, and the cysts disappeared by 30 weeks with both babies. Both are completely healthy!

Ds1 had one and we opted out of further testing. DH is in med school and when he told one of his preceptors they laughed about being worried. That made me feel better ! DS is a very happy and healthy toddler now

Another happy and healthy toddler here who had a CPC at the 20 week scan. My OB said the same thing, that without other markers everything should be okay.

My LO had bilateral choroid plexus cysts at 19 weeks. It was the only soft marker, so we did the Panorama test and it ruled out a chromosome problem. At the 24 week scan the cysts were gone.

We saw bilateral CPC on our ultrasound at 18 weeks and were slightly terrified like you. They did resolve by 28 weeks and now we have a 2 week old! We didn't do any blood tests or anything because our risk of abnormality was super low. The MFM did say she wouldn't worry about it unless there were other markers along with it.

Well, tomorrow is our ultrasound to check out the CPCs... I have been pretty good about not worrying about it and have been trying to remember all the stories I have heard on here. Okay...maybe I haven't been that good about not worrying.
Hoping they are either gone or there are still no other alarming markers.

DD has one - found on 12 week U/S but we were told that it was not of concern as all other screening came back normal at that time. It didn't go away (we know because she had an MRI at 7 months for an unrelated reason). She's perfectly healthy

Both of my girls had them. DD1's resolved, but DD2's never did and I was so worried! Now she is a healthy 2 year old. Good luck tomorrow!

Question - did the CPC cause you to be deemed high risk now? I just had this exact thing happen today...CPC at 20 week scan, no other problems. They had me take the Materniti21 test but haven't scheduled any other ultrasounds yet...... I pretty much had a breakdown in the office so I'm not sure if there will be additional monitoring and we will discuss it when the results come back or if things will just go back to "normal" as far as visits go.

@charlotte: Lo1 had a CPC and it was not considered to be high risk at all. I think I had to remind my MW that there was supposed to be a follow up ultrasound!

@jedeve: got it, thanks! I overheard them checking my insurance on the phone for the blood work and said it was high risk but I think it must mean that's the reason rather than being over 35.

@charlotte: Not at all! They said they just wanted me to come back at 28 weeks for a follow up ultrasound but no testing or anything. Neither the tech nor my doctor were concerned at all. In the absence of other markers, it seems to be just a part of development. It's freaky, of course, but just like everyone said, it ended up being nothing. I read A LOT about it and I failed to find one person whose LO had CPCs that didn't resolve itself or didn't have any impact on the child if it didn't resolve by birth.

@simplyfelicity: hey! glad to hear this resolved itself - we just got results from our anatomy scan which turned up CPCs, but no other markers for Trisomy 18. We also did the Harmony test a few weeks before which came back normal, although I think it's only around 87% accurate for Trisomy 18.
we're having a follow up ultrasound next week (4 weeks after the anatomy scan) with an MFM and I'm hoping everything is fine.... -
@charlotte: did your MaterniT21 results come back?? this would have been the next step for me but we already had the bloodworm.... we also had something else show up in the scan so I think that's why we're doing a follow up U/S with an MFM.

@hellobeeboston: just saw that you were dealing with cpcs too. Definitely seems to be more common than the 1% of pregnancies that I thought I read somewhere.
My M21 has not come back yet. I think it could be up to another week. Will definitely update when we hear back. I hope everything goes well with your ultrasound next week. I may request one at my next appt if my doctor doesn't offer just to make sure the cyst has gone away. Hate dealing with this as I'm sure you do too but have read a lot of reassuring things in the last week.

still waiting on my bloodwork! I noticed your other post on due date board (I should join but sometimes my participation comes and goes and I don't want to just pull a disappearing act on anyone!). I hope that the other one clears up too - will be thinking good thoughts for you guys.

@charlotte: thank you!! Same for you. These CP cysts do seem very common. The MFM mentioned they are becoming so common turning up in ultrasounds they may not be a marker anymore.
