I don't have a hard name but it's old fashion, so folks always butcher it at places like Sbux. I've decided to go by JEN whenever I order a drink. Do you ever use a fake name?

Whenever I order food I put it under my husband's name. I don't have a super uncommon name but for some reason when I'm on the phone people never understand it correctly.

Totally. I live in Mexico and no one can say my name. I always tell them it's "Flor." Otherwise I'd spend half my life trying to explain. Flor is Spanish for flower (besides being a proper name) so the barista even sometimes draws a little flower on my coffee. Man, it's going to suck if they ever take a good look at my credit card LOL

My name is common, but my friend does that all the time. It's an unusual name, but still incredibly easy to pronounce, but people never get it, so she just gives a similar easy name.

I have a fairly common name, but once the girl at sbux wrote "Lisa" on my cup. Rachel... Lisa... not so close.

My real name was a Vietnamese name and when I was young, my sister and her friends gave us all American nick names. Those nick names aren't that close to our real names. Well, I legally changed my name when I got married.

@bluestriped bee: for real?! that's so crazy. I've never heard of someone actually legally changing their name. Were your parents upset at all?

Yes, I have an old fashioned long name, so I usually just Annie. Lately I'll say Cam since my son is always with me.
I saw this on Pinterest, and it gave me the giggles:

@Coco Bee: I didn't want my mom that mad at me, so my given name is now hyphenated with my middle name. So I still have the name...

@lemondrop: LOL! Going to Pinterest now to go find it.

@bluestriped bee: I didn't know that wasn't your given name! Interesting.
I have a pretty uncommon first name and this one (perpetually high) kid at Starbucks always messes it up, so I go by "Mary."

@lemondrop: bahaha I love it.
did you ever see the Wizards of Waverly Place episode where Selena Gomez says her name is Oprah each time she orders?!

I have a friend with a really long last name that always gives the same fake short one to valets...it's just easier!
Whenever I order food or have to give a name to the hostess, I use the name of the person I'm with--mine is short and simple, but people butcher it anyway.

That is funny! No, and they don't ever butcher my name, but they almost always spell it wrong. It's Christina, which I think is a pretty standard spelling. Sometimes they even write Xtina lol.

No, people get Andrea right so I really like my name. They might not pronounce it how I like but that's ok ....

I have several fake names and personalities for each one. That makes me sound crazy, but sometimes you just gotta be someone else for a bit.

DH & I both have Korean names that get butchered, so we always use John & Jane at restaurants & Sbux

@lemondrop: Haha!
I have a really common, easy name so I always use it and no one has any issues.

@highwire: No one can pronounce our last name. I learned early on all the different ways that people butcher our last name and got used to it.

SWARLEY!!!!!
i have a friend named noelia and she always goes by jane at sbux and when making reservations.

@Clementine: LOL I always use jennifer as my english name for takeout orders/sbux etc. it's much easier than using my korean first name!

Rachel is boring enough and easy to understand although extery frequently misspelled (which is so annoying)

I sometimes give my name as Charlie, as my name is somewhat common.

When I'm with my DD, I give her name... She loves hearing it called out

@NYCaliMama: I like that, I think I might do that after my daughter is born!
My name is not unusual but it's old-fashioned and not super common. When I was single I used to travel by myself a lot, and sometimes I felt paranoid giving my name at restaurants and stuff. I always used Beth which is my mother's nickname. It felt easier than using a completely made up name because I am a terrible liar.

Starbucks always gets my name wrong. But whatever, I don't care. HOWEVER, when a random asks me what my name is, I always say "Karen" - I don't know why!

One night my husband was in a terrible mood (all thanks to our still not quite done bathroom remodel) and he went to Penn Station to pick up some dinner. Apparently at places like that he says his name is Frankie (it's not - his real name is simple but for some reason people have difficulty with it).
Anyway the order-taker at Penn Station either didn't hear him correctly or just picked up on his bad mood and wanted to point it out, because instead of writing Frankie, he wrote "Cranky". This will stay on our bulletin board forever.... I love it. ha!

@Mrs. Cowgirl: I looooooove how I met your mother!! Haha, awesome!
My alter ego is Agnes. Used primarily as a bowling name (which happens like once a year, but my name stays the same!), but I've used it elsewhere

@Mrs. Cowgirl: I clicked into this thread just to see if someone would say Swarley. Excellent! (Off-topic, my fave from that episode is Swarls Barkley.)

There are some clothing stores that write your name on your fitting room. For some reason that drives me crazy, so lately I've been telling them that I am Charlotte.
