This weekend I got to spend some time with my Mom and her sister. I knew my Mom went late with both her kids, had an epidural for both and labored for more than 24 hours. I did not know that my aunt had no pain medication with her three kids! Apparently with each of her three kids, she arrived at the hospital just an hour or less before those kids were born! I couldn't believe the difference in the birth stories from both of them.
What were your family birth experiences like?

My mom had all of us kids pretty fast, and with no meds. She asked for an epidural with me I think, but they said no. It just wasn't the norm back then. My older sister was born just 20 minutes after she got to the hospital.
One of my aunts is a pain in the tush. She was so crazy during her labors that they put her completely out.

My mom had 4 kids - all 1 week to 2 weeks early - and all without pain meds. YIKES!
MIL had 3 kids - all naturally, too!
I'm not sure about how long their labors were.
My sister has 2 kids: 1 came prematurely at 34 weeks and she did have an epidural and episiotomy. 1 came on or about her due date, but my sister was induced and had an epidural. Not sure if she had an episiotomy for #2. Both labors were under 24 hours, maybe 12 hours total from time of hospital admission to birth.

My mom had pain around when I was due. Drs sent her home. They almost sent her home a week later but she was in so much pain she refused to go home. Stooped residents. Turns out she needed emergency csection.

My mom delivered me via c-section, but vaginally with my younger brother. Both with epidurals and she said she labored for over a day with me!

My mom and both of her sisters all had some sort of intervention for their births, and they all had pre-eclampsia with at least one pregnancy. 
My mom was induced and got epidurals for all three of us. Her elder sister had two c-sections then a vbac with epidural. Her younger sister had a c-section.

My mom had all 3 of us either on-time or late, and went all natural for all 3 of us. My maternal aunt is child-free by choice. I will be an induction at 38 weeks due to my combination of complications.

My mom had 5 kids total-
all 5 she had epidurals
with 4, she went into labor on or before her due date
with 1, she was induced--this baby didn't make it because he had a diaphramic hernia and couldn't breathe the oxygen.
My mom and I talked about it after my recent loss. She thinks that baby #4 'knew' the inside was safer for him, so that's why her body didn't go into labor. I felt 'off' since the beginning of my pregnancy, so she thinks my body and baby 'knew' that it wouldn't go full term and something would happen.

My mom was my inspiration! She had SIX children, and none of them with any type of pain medication. She had hospital births with each, but hated each experience, so it was really amazing that she never caved on wanting a natural birth.
The only induction was my little brother, she said it was by far the most grueling and intense labor of them all. I was induced too (and it was my first), so it was nice to know that if I can go into labor naturally next time, that it won't be as hard...hopefully!
My sister had a beautiful, natural childbirth at a birth center.

My mom had two kids - both c-sections (and I had a section too.) With my older brother, she was in labor for over a day and developed a horrific infection, but the doctor kept trying to pull my brother out. Somewhere in the process they broke his leg, and she ahd an emergency section. (she still has the teeny tiny cast, its so cute.) I still dont know why she didnt sue, but the doctor lost his license after that. Apparently it was the last straw.
Then with me, she was brought in two weeks early for a section due to toxemia and hypertension.
I ended up with pre-pre-eclampsia (they think) and pregnancy induced hypertension (bad bad bad high BP) and polyhydramnios. My OB said those things arent genetic but who knows..

Mom was early with all 3 of us and she went natural WITHOUT meds! I was a huge 9+lb baby too! Mom is tiny--5 feet tall and 100 pounds!

my mom had me 2 weeks early - she showed up at the hospital at 6 pm, and I was born by 6:14! she was only 18 so she said she was stubborn that it was 'just gas' and wouldn't go in.
with my brother (4 years later) the doctors made her come in 2 weeks early to induce, because they were afraid she'd end up delivering at home or in the car!
I hope I go 2 weeks early!!

My mom labored with me for 36 hours, no epidural ( doctor refused to give her one), two weeks late, and i think she hates me a little for that :). (i also had colic, didnt help the relationship!)
On the other hand, my brother was on time, she labored with him for 8 hours and he was 10 pounds, 7 ounces (she got her epidural, too!)

My mom went into labor with me 3 days after her due date - labored for 24 hours before they gave her an xray (ha!) to discover I was breech, so she had a section. With my brother she had a scheduled c-section the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
My MIL had an epidural with DH (her first), but was natural for the other 3. With her fourth, she was calmly reading a magazine at 8cm dilated while all the other laboring moms in the room (no privacy in the 80s!) were screaming. Haha she's a champ!

My mom had both my brother and I - sans epidural... I hope I can be like her! I was a few days late, but labor was only 6 or 7 hours. My brother was an overnight laborer.
But she said both of us were pretty easy

I didn't have my mind set on going natural so I caved and embraced the meds.. felt sooooooo good.

According to my mom, the doctor either wasn't available or she got the hospital too late, but they refused to give her an epidural so we wound up going without one, unplanned. I'm an only child, so that was her only birth experience
My MIL had to have an emergency c-section with DH because they found out the chord was wrapped around his neck. He was also 10 lbs! She got an epidural but didn't like the way it made her feel woozy and out of it. For my BIL, she had another c-section.

Mom mom had my sister 3 weeks early and I was right on my due date. Both births were natural and less than 5 hours!
My sister had my first niece 3 weeks early in 7 hours (no pain meds), second one was breech and required a cesarean, and the third came 3 weeks early and took 4 hours (no pain meds).
I'm hoping to be able to go without pain meds too but we shall see!

My mom had me naturally in a hospital, no pain meds, 36+ hour labor. She said it was a nightmare.
My little sister was born at home, in the bathtub after a three hour labor, and since the midwife didn't make it in time, my dad caught her. I was perched on the sink watching the whole time.

My mom had all three of us quickly and naturally in the hospital. I came on my due date, Sister 1 came a week early and Sister 2 came a week late - they were born on each other's due dates. Mom had a complete uterine prolapse with Sister 2 which had me freaked out about birth for a good two decades.
