Does anyone only have family far away? My parents live on the opposite coast and my MIL lives about about 90 minutes away by plane. We see our families fairly often, but sometimes it just makes me so sad that my baby is growing up without family close by - it's not the day-to-day work of it (although having babysitters nearby would be awesome), it's more the holidays that get me down. My husband and I have to live where we do for career reasons and we don't intend to move closer to our parents, but the distance just sucks! Especially since we have a small house and can't have anyone stay with us, so visits from parents have to include airfare *and* hotels.

My mom spontaneously called and said she wanted to come visit soon (she hasn't seen my daughter since August), but when I reminded her that she couldn't stay with us (it worked when my daughter was tiny, but now no one sleeps if my daughter shares a room), she said she was going to have to revaulate. On one hand, I am annoyed because she *knows* she can't stay with us (and she is retired with plenty of money, so it's not a financial hardship issue), and on the other I am just really sad because she got my hopes up for a visit and now I just feel like it's my fault she can't come. Agh. No real question here, just a long vent. I am feeling really icky right now.
