My generation is funding the next reunion. It's all in an account and the main people doing the planning will buy the tshirt or traditional attire if any is involved. It would be seen as pretty disrespectful to not wear it.

We haven't done this but I would wear it if we did. In fact, thinking that I need to suggest this for our next family vacay.

We don't do this. But if everyone else was doing it, I'd buy and wear it to keep the peace. It's one day and how expensive could the t shirt be? (I assume)

We don't do this but of course I would wear the t-shirt. I can't imagine it's so terrible that I couldn't put my fashion preferences aside for a moment for the sake of being inclusive with my family.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm so curious what the design is that you would consider not wearing it! I'm assuming you are ok with matching reunion shirts in general, just not this design, right?

@Foodnerd81: the design , the color, and the fit are just not that inspiring. The only fit option is a man's t-shirt, not a lady's cut. On the cover of Essence this month there's a collage of women activists wearing t-shirts. If I buy one I'll probably try to style it like one of the activist so the neckline doesn't choke me.
In the grand scheme of things it's NBD. I was just curious if wearing the reunion shirt was common among the HBers. My family gave up on reunion shirts long ago since people always opted out. This reunion is for my ILs and the first one I am attending.

I wish my family did this! I would just do it this time to keep the peace, and volunteer to be in charge of the shirts next time.

@Truth Bombs: Ditto.
My husband's family does reunions and the shirts are sometimes silly, but I wear them. It's a family reunion, not a fashion show. I love looking back at all the different shirts I have from his various reunions! I've never known a family member not to wear one, although we get them for free (I guess? Or maybe his Mom pays? We've never paid for a shirt)

@hummusgirl: if I was on the design committee the shirts would be a knock off Ramones tee in several different color options. But, this would need to be my side first!

My family does this every year. They're generally terrible and only ever get worn at the reunion. But we all wear them for pictures and it's there's no way I'd break the tradition.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm guessing your option would be significantly more expensive than a generic men's t. And I wouldn't wear a family reunion t again either way, I don't think. So I'd rather get the cheap one and use it for sleeping or yard work after that.

@Foodnerd81: totally, I would be voted off the committee!

No, I don't want to pay money for a shirt I dislike. DH's family does themed costume days...one year it was "construction worker" (think...high vis, hard hats, work boots, etc.), another year it was professional athlete. Tons of fun, especially when you have to scrounge up an outfit from what you have at home.

I'd doctor it up, then wear it (for in-laws; if it was my family and I didn't like the style, I'd skip it). For instance, I don't care for white tees, so I have dyed or tie-dyed several that I've gotten from different events.
That said, neither side of the family does family reunion tees.

My family doesn't do this and neither does DH's. I would totally wear one, but I doubt we could get any of our single, childless siblings to participate.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: if it's a hanes beefy tee, which I understand why they'd go that route, I'd totally doctor it too! I'd cut off the neckband, make a slit in the front and possible cut the sleeves down to cap sleeves. And because I can sew, I'd do two darts in the back to make it fitted!

My family doesn't have reunions every year (more like every 6 or 8) so it's not a huge expense. I've always gotten one, but was also in charge of finding a designer two years (my brother did one, my cousin the other).
There have been some that don't order them (it can get expensive for larger families), but we've always just asked people to indicate if they want them before they're ordered so we only pay for what we can use.
They've been used for photos, but it hasn't been a huge deal if everyone didn't have one. It's an Italian family, so even those without the family shirt usually have something with an Italian flag or something similar on it.
I made my dad a memory/t-shirt blanket when he was sick with cancer, and the family reunion shirts were a really nice addition.

Yes, I wear the shirt. I think it's implicit the shirts are hokey!

Do a search for t-shirt hacks. There's a ton of ways you alter something to look more like a woman's shirt or look more fitted, without even having to sew.
