My middle name is Hecker. My mother had a sister who developed cancer shortly after birth. She passed away at 14 months of age. My mom has no other siblings. She wanted someone to have her maiden surname, so I got it. As a kid it got me teased, and I hated it for a while. As an adult, I still use it regularly with lots of pride. When I sign my name I always include my middle initial.

We gave DD my last name as a middle name. It's very clearly a last name, not one like some of the PPs have mentioned which could sound "normal" as a middle name. However, I wanted to be able to clearly show from her birth certificate or passport that she is my child, particularly when we travel abroad. (Sadly, some places still don't understand that a parent and child can have different surnames). And DH isn't a fan of middle names at all, so his preference if we didn't give her my last name as a middle was none at all -- so the choice was pretty easy. DD may not like it as she's growing up, and she doesn't have to use it in day-to-day life if she doesn't want to, but I hope someday she appreciates having the name.

We gave my daughter my maiden name as a second middle name. So she's E****** A** Hill H*****.

My middle names are a given name and my mom's maiden name.
DD has her paternal great grandmother's maiden name as her first middle and my maiden name as her second middle name. She shares her middle name with FIL. It's not a traditional middle name it translates from French to young, but it flows beautifully with her first name and connects her to a brave woman.

Both of my sons have my last name as their middle. I kept it, so I liked having a connection to them that way, too. It's an English last name, not super common, but not weird for a middle and works well.

We plan on giving our next son my maiden name as a middle name.

My twins each have one of our mom's (so their grandmothers) maiden names. My son's middle is Alexander which is my MIL's maiden name and my husband's first name.

DH has his mother's maiden name as a middle name (it's a name that is commonly a first name though). DH actually has a lot of last names in his family that would work great for male first/middle names.
My family - not so much! Lots of hard to pronounce German surnames.

My maiden is not suitable for a middle, but I know lots of friends that borrowed surnames from family for middles and even firsts! My friend's son's name is Benjamin, which was actually a grandpa's last name.

Our little one to come in December actually has two surnames for his first and middle. I think it all depends on the name and I really like the two you listed

DH's name is my MIL's maiden name. DS's name is DH's grandmother's maiden name with DH's name as his middle. I joke that we gave him 3 last names.

One of my best friends has 2 middle names, both of his grandmothers' maiden name. I love tradition.

My husband's middle name is his mother's maiden name - and it is obviously a last name. When I got married and changed my last name, I dropped my original middle name and bumped my old last name to my middle name (First Middle Maiden -> First Maiden NewLast). It is also very clearly a last name. We will be using my maiden name as our son's middle name so as a family we will have:
DH: ABC (where B is his mother's maiden name)
Me: DEC (E is my maiden name)
DS: FEC (E is my maiden name)

I'd include the names here to make it less confusing, but they are VERY uncommon. It never bothered my husband as a child, and having a weird last name never bothered me - it was just complicated because no one could pronounce it correctly.

My maiden name would be pretty for a girl's middle name. The other maiden names in my family (Hoenig, Jones) wouldn't be that great. DH has Herzog, Walsh, and Garrity. Walsh would be OK. Garrity I think would be a great first name!

I would have loved to use my maiden name as part of a LOs name. One of my cousins gave it to her son as a first name. I was annoyed when she did it because it was never her last name, but her mothers. I realize that's petty now.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I have a family surname as a middle name. My name is "firstname-familyname-dadslastname".
It was my great-grandmother's maiden name and my grandfather, mother, uncle and cousin all have it.

I really wanted to incorporate it into J's name, but I also wanted my dad's first name as J's middle and DH thought adding the second middle name would be too much. I'm still a little sad that I probably won't be able to pass along this family name.
