My husband and I were invited to my cousin's wedding. It is a no kids wedding. It's also in Ohio. We were planning on making the trip up there for it. My cousin told us if we can't find a sitter, we could take the baby. Super sweet of her but I'm not sure I want to be *that* couple.
What would you do? Leave the baby with dad in the hotel room or take the baby and hope she doesn't make any noise?

I would take the baby!
We took LO to a wedding just two weeks ago and she was super quiet during the ceremony and we brought her stroller and pushed her around duirng the reception. She was great.
If my baby couldn't come, I wouldn't go!

How old would the baby be, and are you still BFing? I would probably leave the baby in the hotel with dad (or whatever sitter), because I feel like it would be too late a night, it would be loud, plus it would be nice for you guys to have a night out. But that's assuming the baby is old enough that it mostly sleeps at night and has some kind of schedule. If it is super young, I might go just to the ceremony or something and leave when the party really gets started. I can't see having a really young baby at a loud reception.

Take the baby! Our wedding was no-kids, but then DH's groomsman and his wife showed up with their newborn. I figured they would, neither of them live near family and they lived in the Northeast while our wedding was in Florida. Plus she was like 6 months old! It didn't bother me at all, and I don't think anybody looked at them as "that couple." Many no-kids weddings are no-kids because they can't afford the seats (that was our case, our venue had a small capacity and if everybody we invited brought their kids, the kids would have been 25% of the guest list, and we wouldn't have been able to invite a lot of adults we wanted to). A baby doesn't take up a seat or a meal.

She will be almost 5 months and I am still breastfeeding though we do bottles, too. It's a Catholic wedding with a huge Catholic gap between the mass (at 2) and the reception (at 7). The important thing to me is the ceremony. I want to see my favorite cousin get married!

Will you enjoy the ceremony at all, though, if you're stressing about keeping LO quiet? Just thinking about how loooong a mass can be!

I would take her to the ceremony, and then try and arrange a sitter do watch her while you're at dinner. Our LO would be in bed by 8pm anyway, so I wouln'd want her at the reception (she'd be a cranky mess!)

Ditto PrettyLizy, I'd take her to the ceremony and have DH ready to step out with her if she acts up, and try and find a sitter for the reception. Can your cousin help you find someone you would be able to trust with LO?

I have learned that I definitely enjoy events a lot more when lo is not with me!! Then I don't worry about wearin something I can bf in, or whether he'll stay quiet or how he'll get his naps in... If it were me I'd get a babysitter

I would take the baby. I think family should be an exception. We did that for our family at our wedding; and we recently attended a wedding where the invitation didn't specify so I called and my friend and she made an exception b/c I'm nursing my baby (he was 5 months). She basically said she only made exceptions for those who called to ask.

I would take the baby, but we have taken our kids to a lot of weddings, so I feel pretty comfortable with that. I would just sit in the back just in case, but at 5 months you don't really have to entertain babies; they're pretty much fine just sitting there.

I wouldn't take the baby. If the wedding is an adult-only wedding, then I would have to respect that. I would either leave the baby with hubs or just opt not to attend.

I would take her. We took L to her first wedding when she was almost 6 months old. I was terrified beyond words and the Mr. offered to sit the ceremony out with L, but the bride wouldn't hear of it L did great - super happy, smiley, and most importantly, QUIET, during the whole ceremony.
Reception was a little harder - the Mr. spent most of his time outside holding her since she was really tired, but still there were no tears or meltdowns. We left around 10PM.

Ugh....This is something I've really thought about bc I'm in my BFF's no-kids wedding in Sept '13 and it's in Colorado...We are going to take Harper (she'll be 9 months) and DH will watch her while I'm doing my BM stuff during the day, and we have to get a sitter to stay in our hotel with her. BFF SWEARS that it will be super easy to find a sitter that her family knows/trusts and not to worry about it, but it is almost a year away and I already stress about it!!!!
If I were you, I'd honestly just bring LO and have DH prepared to step out if she makes a peep. The sitter thing in a place I'm not from with a sitter I don't know freaks me out a little. We had a no-kids wedding, and we had one guest who brought their 2 year old daughter to the reception (I have no idea if she was at the ceremony or not), and she was fine! I have secretly been hoping that my BFF will be like - "oh well she can come to the reception bc your husband can take care of her while we're partying" (DH would prefer this to leaving her with someone), but she hasn't uttered a word about it. All she's said is "You'd better not be on #2 at my wedding!" So I think it's awesome that your cousin is bending her no-kids rule for you, and that you sound like you guys would be super grateful and able to pull it off by acting fast if anything goes awry!
