If you live far from family (by far I mean what you consider as far) how often do you Facetime/Skype with them and LO?
I think I spoiled my mom by Skyping with her too often. I've been trying to include her into our daily routine. I live abroad and want to make sure DD recognizes her. But lately she's been acting like I'm obligated to do it. I think it's time to cut all the Facetime. I'm trying to figure out what the "norm" is.

We usually FaceTime with my mom once a week or once every two weeks and usually once every two weeks with FIL and stepMIL.

This situation doesn't apply to me but I think more than once a week would drive me nuts especially if it was an obligation. I don't have that kind of time!

between my mama and i, a couple times a week? someone will call, and if the other side doesn't pick up, we just leave it. and someone will try again, maybe later that day, maybe in a few days. we don't have a routine or set time to call or anything
DH's parents don't do the technology thing. they get pictures through Facebook, and I leave it u to them and DH how often they call each other

Were overseas. I skype my mom about 2 times a week, unless there is some kindof news to share. I thinkmI talkedto her 4 times last week. Haha.
LO does recognize her. C gets super excited when she hears the Skype dialing noise and rushes over to the computer because she kows she'll get to talk to grandma.

Usually once or twice a week with each of our families, it's definitely good for recognition.
One of the last times we saw my dad was July 2012. We didn't see him again until May 2013, but DS knew exactly who he was and wasn't afraid of him or anything. Same with my inlaws, we last saw them in April, but we will visit them again next week. I'm sure DS will fully recognize them (and their cat!).

I live 10 hours from both my parents. We FaceTime with my dad about once a week and once every two weeks with my mom. I FaceTime with my sister about once a week. But I'm with Penny Lane, one side will call and check if FaceTime is convenient. I love it. I miss my family so so much so it helps not feel so far.

Oh man, I'm terrible 
I can easily go 3/4 weeks without skyping my parents!! We've always been a "together when we're together, not when we're not" type of family...my parents both travelled extensively when i was growing up so it wasn't unusual to go months without seeing one or both of them, and phone conversations were few & far between. Since I've been pregnant we've skyped more because they want to know everything thats going on, so maybe once every 2 weeks? They will be here with me almost up until delivery, for the last 4 weeks-ish of my pregnancy, and then come back again for 6 weeks when the baby is about 8 weeks, so I'm sure I'll get my full fix then! I couldn't love my parents more, but we are just not great communicators unless we're together (then the dinners last til 2 am and we stay in our pjs chatting til the afternoon!)

Honestly we FaceTime my mom almost very week day unless one of us is too busy. I SAH so it's nice to chat and LO loves to wave at her. Most of the time I point the camera at him as he wanders around though, were not sitting and looking at her.

Once a week or so. DH's parents want to Skype every Sunday morning. My parents don't really care, and it is normally my idea so they get to facetime about every 8 days or so.

My sister lives 4 hours away, and when she was in college we would FaceTime every day. She's also my BFF, so we'd talk every day long before Chloe came into the picture 
Now she works as an RN so her schedule is a bit all over the place, so we FaceTime when we can. Maybe once or twice a week?

We are 3 hours away from family and see them every 4 to 6 weeks so we rarely FaceTime. Maybe once a month if something's going in. Last time was mid August for a trip planning meeting.

DD is due in a month but we've already talked about face timing / skyping with my mom when she's here. I'm sure it will be more at first but then I'm thinking we should "schedule" a weekly session based on some of your comments! (I live in Florida, she lives in NJ, and my sisters are in Armenia and Utah.) My SIL tries to face time me occasionally with her son but I try to avoid it. He doesn't recognize me and loses interest, and I wouldn't face time her by herself, so it can be awkward. But I have no issue face-timing my mom or sisters.

Do you email pictures? What if you cut some Skype sessions but start emailing pictures?

A couple of times a week,, but my WHOLE family is far away, so we try to make sure everyone is on (using google plus). Sometimes, it will be multiple times a day but with different family members.

Usually, once a week. Been a little more lately after my parents' dog passed away. We also do almost daily uploads of photos on Flickr. My parents do feel entitled to these interactions with my kids but so far hasn't been too much of a problem.

@locavore_mama: My mom is horrible with emails and never knows where the pictures are afterwords.
She msged me on FB last night asking "why I don't want to show DD". =_= I've posted 2 videos on FB especially for the grandmas. Sigh.
I'm gonna try once or 2x a week. Everyday was starting to be too much.

This is the ongoing battle with my family and I right now. They absolutely HATE that I am living overseas and can't believe I would choose to raise their grandchild so far away from them. My mom face times us nearly every day so she can see her granddaughter. I love my mom and am really close to her, but man oh man does it get exhausting! I feel like we spend half our day on FT with either my mom or my sister and never get to do half the stuff I plan on doing with LO. I'm trying to scale it back a bit but the guilt trips ramp up and it ends up being not quite worth it half the time,
I guess the positive is that LO did recognise my mom and my sister because of all the FT, so that much was good, but really, I'd love to scale it back to every third day or so and not feel horribly guilty.
