Which is your favorite convertible car seat, and why?
For reference we only have 1 LO right now, but plan on more close in age. We have medium sized vehicles, Impala and RAV4.

We have a Ford Fusion and a honda cr-v and we both love our Foonfs. They're narrow and sit up higher, so E's always been a happy camper in them. She freaking HATES the backup Safety 1st seat in MIL's car. She can't see out the window, I guess

@blackbird: that's what I'm looking at! Do you think it's worth the money? That's the only thing I'm hesitating about!

Love love love my Foonf. Worth every penny - especially considering she will use it every day for at least 4 years. I will check out the Fllo also when I need another convertible for this LO, but I would buy another foonf in a second. My mom has a Britax Pavilion in her car and it sits so low that LO can't see out the window nearly as well as she can in the foonf

We have the Fllo and it's awesome. We've ordered another for DD2 and will get a third next year when #3 arrives.

We have the Diono Radian and DS likes it. It's comfy and will be the last seat he ever uses since it converts to a booster later on!
DH has a Evenflo Triumph in his car, and DS is okay in there also. It's definitely not as comfy as the Diono, but he'll nap in it.

@AmandaB8: I think this might be the place where we are too, i'm not sure if we can afford the Foonf!

We love our Diono Radian. It fits in the middle of my car even with a Chicco Keyfit infant seat right next to it. Very easy to install, works on airplanes, feels very secure and gets good ratings. I didn't really know about the Foonf when we chose it.

We have a Chicco NextFit and DS loves it. We have the Cosco Scenera NEXT for DH's car and travel and it works great with some aftermarket strap covers bc they were rubbing DS' neck.

@charlotte: good to know that it fits nexts to the Chicco Keyfit! that's the infant carseat that we have now, and would most likely use for our next LO (as long as no accidents and is still not expired)

We have the maxi cosi pria which I don't love, and the chicco nextfit which I like a lot better. The Pria's in my car, so I can't wait until I can switch him to a booster with a 5 point harness.

@charlotte: Awesome! DS is currently in the Diono in the middle, and I'd like to put our Chicco KeyFit next to it, but it seems a lil tight. Good to know it fits well!

We have a Britax Boulevard and Graco (I forgot the model). They're pretty much exactly the same in terms of dimensions and ease of install. I know that everyone loves Foonfs for their high rear facing limits, but I feel like other brands have done a lot in the past few years to catch up.

We have a Foonf in my car and a Graco MyRide65 in Hubs' car. The ONLY reason we have Foonf is because I won it at Mommycon; otherwise we'd have a 2nd Graco. I have gone back and forth on my worship of the Foonf, but am now firmly in the "I wish we could afford another one when LO2 will need one." D loves it compared to the Graco because he sits up high and can see perfectly out the window. My only complaint is that there isn't a cupholder, which the Graco has, although you can buy one after-marker from Clek; I just haven't bothered to spend the money.

@ShootingStar: I was thinking about getting the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 w/ Tiny Fit, can you share why you don't like it as much as your other car seat?
coconut / 8472 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: The straps are a lot tougher to use than the Nextfit's are. The Pria's constantly get stuck that last half inch or so and I feel like it's really tough to get it safe. There are mornings when I am SWEATING trying to get it tight enough. Meanwhile I used DH's Nextfit last weekend and I was amazed at how smooth the straps glided on his.
The other problem I have with the Pria is the straps are constantly getting twisted. I heard from another Pria user that theirs does this too. By twisted, I mean the part that snaps into the crotch buckle is either flipped around or partially flipped. It happens all the time, and half the time I don't realize it until DS is already strapped in (which believe me isn't easy at 21 months!) and then I have to undo him, figure out which one is messed up, and then fiddle with the strap and try to get the thing turned around. It sounds silly and like this should take 2 seconds, but it's actually fairly labor intensive.
The seat is also really difficult to loosen. There's this hidden button that you just have to feel around for, and then sometimes the straps get stuck and won't come loose.
The pros of it are, it has a small foot print and isn't that bad to install. But DH vastly prefers uninstalling and reinstalling his Nextfit. The Nextfit is also much easier to loosen and to tighten. The Nextfit is the only other convertible seat that I have experience with. But if I could do it all over, I'd just get two of those.

Nextfit! It's comfortable, fits well in our car, super easy to install correctly, and will last rear facing for a while!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: we have the pria 70 and really like it. DD is still rear facing at over 3.
OP- we also have the graco mysize65 for DS (1) and really like that as well.

@MrsBrewer: It was for us. The fact that she was *so* happy in it right after we switched her, plus has remained so happy and chill it in confirms it.

we have a Grand Cherokee and use the Diano Rainer and A is very comfortable in it.

@ShootingStar: we have the same line up and I 100% agree. The Pria is really hard to tighten. It's in my husbands car. I much prefer my nextfit and I've been so happy with it! It was a little hard to tighten when it was on the lowest height setting but now it's so easy. We had a keyfit infant seat and we were super happy with that as well.

we have the foonf in one car and the Guide 65 in our smaller car. I like the foonf as the seatbelt doesn't get twisted and will likely get another in the future.
LO doesn't seem to have a preference though, he goes happily into both. we got the Guide 65 to use for plane travel too as it's less bulky and wasn't too difficult to install.

We just switched, we have a Britax Boulevard and a Chicco Nexfit and I like both! I might like the Chicco slightly more at this point. We have a CR-V and the Britax goes into my parent's Subaru.
Honestly, I did so much research, and both are top rated for safety and have good features. We took DD to Buy Buy Baby and literally put her in a few seats and I tried to buckle/unbuckle her, etc.

@ShootingStar: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @CRGmama: We also have the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 and have the same issues with it. I'm hoping the straps loosen up over time as she gets bigger (~20 lbs and will be 1 year on Friday), but for now I pull on the straps from the back of the seat to help tighten, since she's rear-facing (for another couple years at least). I don't know what I'm going to do when we eventually have to switch her to forward...

We like our britax boulevards and marathons!

We have the Nextfit. LO likes it and it seems like she can see just fine but it is such a PITA to clean. I haven't let LO in the car without pull ups get as a result. I'm not sure what I'll get for LO2.

@Corduroy: Do you have the zip version or the regular one?
We have a Peg Perego which is awesome for longer car rides because it's very padded. We need to get another one and haven't decided yet which one. I wanted a nextfit but then I heard it's hard to see past the high sides?
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Another chicco nextfit fan. We had an Acura TL when we got it and it took up the least space front to back RF. the straps did take a week or two to loosen up so I could tighten it easily. C is 2 and average height and still fits great RF and doesn't complain getting in so that's a good sign. And it is so easy to install with LATCH. It's a little more difficult with a seatbelt but once you do it a couple of times it's pretty quick and easy.
I really wanted to like the diono radian, but when we tried it in the middle seat in the Acura it blocked my vision. I think the angle adjuster would have helped but we really liked the nextfit so just went with that.

We love the foonf because DD can see out of the car and is still RFing at 2.5 and 85th percentile for height. My in laws got the Fllo and my mom will too when DD is close to growing out of the combi (which she has to be in FFing because she's so tall but she's still going to grow out of it around 3).
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@MRSJX3: c looks out the window no problem in our nextfit.
Oh and I agree with @Corduroy: that it is a pain to clean. BRU sells a version with a zip off cover that's like $50 extra. C has only thrown up once in the car but I would have gladly paid $50 that day to have it zip off.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Foodnerd81: Ugggh I was looking at that one but we ended up getting the regular one. Clearly I haven't really been through any messy ordeals with DD yet! Tehcnically we still have the box and can return, but now I'm too lazy!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@snowjewelz: it's only come up once and we have been using it for over a year. And I have never removed another convertible car seat cover so I don't know how much worse it is, I just know that knowing there is a zipper option made me really sad I didn't have it. But hopefully you won't have issues!!
