which carseat do you use to travel with? we mostly travel by plane and our next destination will require we have a carseat with us and I would like to bring one vs. renting one when we get there..
if you have a fave, any insights on why would be appreciated also! TIA!

We use the Combi Coccoro - it's relatively light, and it attaches to the Mountain Buggy Nano stroller (or a snap and go base) for easy wheeling around airports. It's also easy to install in taxis with just the seatbelt. While not nearly as convenient as an infant seat, this has been a decent option for the convertible stage.

@Beehive: ohh we have the MBN also! were you able to keep the carseat strapped to the stroller through TSA?
totally forgot about the carseat attachment on that stroller!! we lugged around our graco through the airport last week w/o the attachment and it was so awk!

@Beehive: I'll have to look into that one. We have the MBN as our travel stroller, and we love being able to attach an infant carseat to it. I didn't know you could attach a convertible!
@HelloBear: We've been able to leave the infant seat attached through security. They just inspect the whole thing manually. Although they have unlatched the belt to feel underneath the seat. I've found it so easy to travel with! I've also been able to babywear through security.

@Beehive: do you have any pictures of it attached? We have the same stroller and have planned to buy an extra travel seat as well, though the need hasn't come up just yet. Is it easy enough to install? Borrowed a friends cosco scenera and it wasn't awful, but not very easy.

We have a safety first guide 65 and it is great! Cheap and fairly light and we c an stick it in our umbrella stroller and have Lo sit in it.

I use the Cosco Scenera as well, but only forward facing, as I had a tough time installing it rear facing.

We also have a Cosco Scenera, which was cheap and lightweight. We also bought a Go-go Babyz Mini Travelmate and we can attach the Scenera to it so it's easier to push around the airport (plus LO can sit in it if she likes).

We use the Cosco Scenera and have been using it rear-facing. It's so light it's not even that bad to carry through the airport.

We just bought the Evenflo Tribute for travel but it hasn't arrived yet. I will update as soon as we know how it works!

We haven't used it yet, but we will be getting the cosco scenera NEXT for our trip in August. Still looking for an umbrella stroller - strongly considering the Mountain Buggy Nano.

@hellobear: Unfortunately TSA always makes us put the carseat and the stroller through the x-ray machine. It's easy to strap the carseat on the stroller, though, so not a huge problem.
@Astro Bee: @Foodnerd81: It's definitely easy to install - you just run the straps through the side leads where the seatbelt normally goes and buckle it in the middle, then tighten. I think there might be a way to use those elastic thingies to secure it better, but we never have. It's definitely a bit clunky to push with the carseat attached and a toddler in the carseat (I would never just stroll around town like that, the way I used to with an infant carseat + stroller), but it's amazing for travel.
I don't have any photos with the carseat attached, but I'll try to remember to take one!

@hellobear: I did look at the Scenara, but liked the Evenflo better. It seemed better built and slightly more cushy. Although both aren't very cushy at all.

@hellobear: honestly, it was available at Target and I had a credit to use! We don't plan to use it often and it had very good reviews so I was comfortable with that. Our Britax is just too heavy for use on the plane and while traveling for us.

Can't beat the price. I used it this winter when LO and I traveled solo. I strapped the car seat with a bungee cord to our wheelie bag and just checked them both at the counter. Since it was so affordable, i didn't care if it only survived for the trip but it was fine (direct flight both ways) even without a bag. Easy to install with LATCH in the rental car and no complaints.
One note: my LO is 3 already and will only fit in this seat for another few inches, so i might have gotten something else if i had realized that. But it seems like the cheaper ones have lower weight/height limits.

When I flew with my then almost-2-year-old, we used our Britax convertible seat and I borrowed the caddie to snap it onto for rolling in the airport. I actually didn't bring a stroller on that trip, and ended up wearing DS on my back around the airport. I looked like a sherpa - it was insane! Lol!
That being said, the Britax seat is gigantic and took up a lot of room on the plane, but we really didn't have the budget for another seat and I knew there was no way DS one be okay in the CARES system on the flight - way too little and wiggly. The seat was really the best option. People looked at me like I was totally nuts when I got on the plane, and I think the flight attendants weren't nearly as prepared as I thought they'd be to help, but it all ended up being fine.

@hellobear: I meant to come back and share this info with you but I forgot. Hope I'm not too late.
We pay a car seat safety specialist to come and install our seats and also make a recommendation. I asked him last week what he recommended for travel (we have a Chicco NextFit which is just way too big/heavy) and he agreed that the Cosco Scenera is a good option because it's cheap and lighter but still a safe car seat.

Cosco Scenera NEXT. Light and easy to install with latch and 45 bucks at Walmart. We use it in DH's car too.
