Have you tried "green monster" smoothies? You mix spinach, a banana, milk, ice, and then other fruit if you'd like (I love blueberries!). They are pretty healthy, filling, and satisfy my "sweets" craving. I usually mix in some flax seed too.

@petuniasandpearls: I just recently started making smoothies! Although, I didn't think about putting spinach in! I will look it up, thank you!

With my first baby, I ended up having gestational diabetes so that DEFINITELY made me eat healthier during my last trimester. With this current one, I learned my lesson and am taking it super easywith the unhealthy stuff. But I know how hard it is. I so wish i could have ice cream, cake and sweets all day every day!!!

@banana: I can definitely see that happening with me if I keep this up! That is why I know I need to change it now!

@aMohror: how far along are you? I ate tons of sweets during my second trimester and passed my gd test with flying colors (according to my ob). I too have been trying to figure out how to eat healthier. I hope others make suggestions! I've tried the green monsters and prefer fruit smoothies. It's so hard to get your veggies in when you really just don't like them. (that's my experience, at least).

I was the same way. I forced myself to eat organic veggies, lean meats, etc. :T

@aMohror: How far along are you? because in the beginning it can be hard to eat healthy.. I just try to include lots of fresh fruits of veggies to my grocery list every week

@mediagirl: I'm 21 weeks. I want to eat healthier, that's for sure! I'm already up 18 pounds also and I know I need to eat better to try and not make that go up too fast It's hard for me because even when I'm not pregnant I'm not a huge veggie person!

well since you like icecream you could freeze fruits and yogurt and them blend that into a frozen smoothie treat and add a bit of icecream, and thats actually good for the baby due to all the calcium in yogurt and icecream

@aMohror: I feel your pain. 28 weeks, 30lbs. :-\

@Mrsbells: I never thought about adding a little ice cream, I already add yogurt so I'll try that, thank you for the idea
@mediagirl: Ugh, I don't mind it...until I read about other ladies due in august and have only gained a few pounds!

I feel ya....I barely have an appetite to speak of period, and when I do WANT to eat something, it's a donut stick snack cake. Or something else that's pure sugar. More often than not I fight it off by reaching for fruit, instead...strawberries and oranges especially. It doesn't satisfy the sugar craving, but it takes the edge off.

One dessert I like when I'm craving sweets is to have a big bowl of fruit with 1 scoop of icecream. I'm getting the icecream I want, but also lots fresh fruit.

@aMohror: and if you're really craving chocolate, throw a little chocolate syrup in the smoothie. It's still healthy because it has spinach (that's what I tell myself).

I was no angel when I was pregnant. I usually cut myself a break and ate sweets as long as I knew I was getting enough protein.

Such a better woman than I...Since my first trimester, all I've wanted were Marie Callenders Chicken Pot Pies. I figure its probably ok (depsite the sodium) because its got chicken, carrots and peas...Plus I try to get a banana a day and a cup of yogurt. I've also seriously craved cherry italian ice (which, luckily, only has 100 calories)
I figure as long as I'm taking my prenatal vitamins and not eating nothing but brownies and ice cream, baby is getting what she needs...so cut yourself a break if you don't eat a salad every meal...baby will find a way to get what she needs!!
