My husband and I had to use donor eggs and we just did our second 5 day transfer this morning. Last month was unsuccessful. We started with 6 eggs, 4 fertilized and then 3 made it to day 3, but only one made it to day 5. When we got there today, they said it was still at the morula phase, but was starting to move into the blastocyst phase. It had changed since they had looked at it early this morning. So..... they did assisted hatching and now we wait. I can't help but feel defeated considering I was really hoping for rock star embryos this time! Does anyone have any success stories or encouraging words??

I'm sorry you are going through this! I'm in my TWW after a day 5 transfer too. I think the fact that your embie was developing well today is great news!! Try to have faith even though I know it is hard. Join us on the IVF #3 board for more moral support. There are quite a few of us working our way through cycles right now. Honestly, I really don't know how much quality matters. I've had two frozen embryo transfers with near perfect day 5 blasts and neither was successful. My third frozen embryo transfer was a freeze all at day three because they look so terrible and the doctor gave me a 20% chance at best of it working. We transferred two and I am currently 27 weeks pregnant one of those. Fingers crossed for you that this is it!!

I only had 1 embryo survive at 5 days, graded 'b,' but honestly fervently looked so bad to me compared to others I've seen. I'm now 21 weeks pregnant

@fotolori1: My embryos looked horrible. They were slow growers. I wasn't happy at all. But one of my got me pregnant! Even grade C and D emrbyos result in beautiful babies. Grading doesn't mean much really in terms of successful pregnancy. Best of luck! Don't worry just yet.

@fotolori1: There's definitely some sanity in getting support from the HB ladies -- IVF grads and those of us still "in process."
I completely understand getting discouraged. If it makes you feel any better, the RE and embryologist said our embies were "fine" and, at best, "pretty good." They were encouraging me to be realistic, but I was wanting to hear "perfect" or "beautiful." But I guess the embies (one or both?! TBD) decided they were perfect just as they are because I found out yesterday with my beta that one or both are thinking about sticking around.
It's an uphill battle and the outcomes are so earth-shattering. Go easy on yourself and breath deep and hopefully that little embie is already making a nice home in your belly.

I did IVF - got 4 eggs, 2 fertilized, only one made it to day 5. I now have a two year old. Try not to think about the quantity or the grading - remember that we have no idea about the "grade" of 99% of the eggs that turn into healthy happy babies! All it takes is one.

@Amorini: congratulations!!! That is such an encouraging story! I hope I have the same outcome! My Dr didn't want to get our hopes up, but he didn't want to stress us out either.
@erinbaderin: I didn't think about it that way! If every embryo that resulted in a baby was perfect there would be much less people in the world!

@fotolori1: I also wanted to add that we discussed grading with the RE right before my transfer - like literally, I was on the table - and she said that they just don't really see embryos that they would categorize as "perfect" almost ever, which was kind of surprising to me at first since they are looking at embryos every day. But when I thought about it, it is after all nature/biology we are dealing with here, which is by design perfectly imperfect on purpose! Hugs!

It took us moving on to donor eggs before I was finally able to keep a pregnancy - we just had to have patience and find the right egg! I'm 37 weeks pregnant this Thursday, and this pregnancy has been an absolute dream. We think back on all the years of struggle and crazy expense to get us to this point and are so happy we were able to keep on trying until we connected with the right egg. Wishing you all the luck in the world!!!

We actually used donor eggs too! I am hoping it doesn't end up being a problem with the DNA fragmentation of Hubby's sperm.

It's such an exhausting process. I've had beautiful embryos fail, and wonky looking ones work... and honestly? I don't think there's rhyme or reason to how this all works. Multiple rounds has me questioning a lot!
Hoping the assisted hatching helps this one along. xx
