So my 8 year old female cat started meowing loudly a little while ago. I went downstairs to clean out her litter box and discovered she peed on the floor and the urine was bloody. She's never had any health problems and I'm freaking out about this right now. Has anyone had a similar experience with a cat? I made an appt for the vet for Monday but am wondering if I should take her to the 24/7 emergency clinic.

Could be a blockage that is tearing her urethra. My kitty had this problem and almost died. I'd say emergency vet

Could be a kidney infection...I vote emergency!

I third emergency, even if just to be safe. My female cat had had this happen twice and both times it was a UTI, but they were worried it was something more serious (and fatal), so I'd take her in!

Oh no! No experience with this, but I know if anything is wrong with my dog or cat I make sure they are seen ASAP, for peace of mind if nothing else. Hope your kitty is ok!!

Just got back from the clinic. Thanks everyone. I think I just needed reassurance that it wasn't an overreaction to take her in on a Saturday night.
@yoursilverlining: The vet said it's a UTI and gave me antibiotics, so it looks like everything will be okay.

@Katrocap: our last dog used to get bladder infections all the time, at like 9pm on a Friday or 730 on a Sunday - it wa alike he knew the emergency vet ($$$$$) was our only option. Glad it's not something more serious!
