Reminds me of pincher. I've never heard it as a name but I definitely prefer Finch

I prefer Finch. Fincher sounds made up to me. I like Larkin and Starling too for masculine avian names.

I much prefer just Finch. When I first read Fincher I thought it said Flincher. I don't think the -er ending adds anything. For me, it makes the name even more unrecognizable as a name and distances my thoughts from being bird-related. If you like -er ending, I like something like Forester or Fielder better. Even though they aren't directly bird-related, I still get a nature/bird habitat feeling from them that I don't get from Fincher.

Finch over Fincher. Fincher doesn't sound like a real name to me.

What about Wilder? It has a naturey and birdy ring to it!

Not a fan to be honest. Finch is better than Fincher though. But in full disclosure I'm not a huge fan of -er names. I like @Rainbow Sprinkles: 's suggestion of Wilder as an alternative!

@Ellie: do you like the name Cedar? (My favorite bird- a Cedar Waxwing!)

I like Finch the best, but if you are going to mostly call him Finch and like the name Fincher I would just go with it! I think with Fincher you could also call him Fin (or Finn) and I like that too.

Martin and Jay would be my top picks.

Maybe Petrel (and use Pete as a nickname), but I'm not as big a fan of that one because giant petrels are pretty nasty predators and I think spelling it could be an issue.

What about Roger for Roger Tory Peterson? Wilson also shows up a lot in my Peterson's guide. Will is a nice nickname.

I prefer Finch over Fincher.

One of my classmates was named Jay and I've always liked that name or there is also Marlin.

Between Finch and Fincher, I'd go with Finch. I like some of the other names posters suggested better though.
