Have any of your LO's experienced fingernail loss after HFMD? I was warned by one of LO's classmate's parents that it could happen, but I wasn't sure when to expect it, or what it would be like.
LO had HFMD about 4 weeks ago, and today, we noticed her nail is separating at the base (near the cuticle). The top is still attached. She doesn't seem to be in pain, and I can't think of any trauma that could have caused it.
Does this sound familiar after HFMD?

when DD1 was 15 months, her doc thought she had HFM, but after a couple days, she diagnosed it as herpetic whitlow. presents like HFM the first time, but with pus-filled blisters. DD1 sucks her fingers so she got one on each index finger and lost both of those fingernails. she wasn't too bothered by it. now she has the virus, so she's gotten a few cold sores on her lips and one blister on a finger again, but nothing like the first time!
she's also lost toenails several times due to stubbing them!

Yes! And for us, it was 6 weeks after HFM, so I panicked until we did a little Google research and figured out it was related. And oddly enough, it didn't affect his fingernails at all, but his toenails all came off at the base.

My DS didn't but I lost all my fingernails and toenails after having HFM a year and a half ago. It definitely sounds like that could be happening to your LO!

YES! People should warn you about that, right? As if HF wasn't enough already. 
G's kind of flaked away, and a new nail was already waiting underneath. Crazy!

@littlejoy: it was really awful and I felt so guilty because I had a cold sore weeks beforehand and thought I was careful, but somehow I still passed it onto her. Basically 10 days of quarantining ourselves and she was miserable for 8 of those 10 days.

I had HFM a year and a half ago (didn't even have a kid back then), and lost some nails about 4 or 5 weeks after. Recovering from HFM was seriously worse than my c section recovery
