Did your LO eat any cake at their first bday? I think I will make vanilla cupcakes!

I don't have a LO, but my youngest brother was born when I was 13. I remember his birthday clear as day. My mom bought a cake for all of us to eat and gave my brother the free cake for his first year. He tore that thing apart. He was covered from head to toe in icing and enjoyed eating it too. I wish I had some pictures to share.

She poked at it and threw some on the floor.
She probably got a small taste.
I ate most of it
Freaking expensive cake too!

My LO isn't a year old yet but my nephew at least looked like he was eating his cake. He ended up throwing or wearing a lot of it but I think some ended up in his mouth.

@autumnlove: I know. Those pictures are great.
Does anyone else have a grocery store that does the free first year birthday cake? It's pretty common around here.

We got a small cake from the grocery store as a smash cake. It turned out great for pictures but she didn't eat much.

I made a gluten free vegan cake for my LO due to his allergies. I thought he would love it, but he didn't really care for it. I think he didn't like the attention and was just being shy.
@BabyBear: Acme does free 1st birthday cakes, but I think they require proof of age (maybe a copy of a birth certificate).

I am planning LO's first bday already even though he's only 6 months LOL. My niece tore into it! I loved it!

I baked one of those giant cup cakes for LO to demolish and ordered cake for the rest of the guests. Did this for both kids.

@yin: Yep! All you have to do is bring in a copy of the birth certificate. =) Acme is the one I was thinking of too.

We did chocolate chunk brownies instead of cake since we tend to do that for birthdays in our families instead. She really liked them and ate several big bites, and we made them at home so it was cheaper.

I made my daughter her own cake for her first birthday! At first she was confused and just stared at it, then she dug in and made a huge mess, ate some of it but ultimately ended up sitting there crying!
