I'm undecided on whether or not to do favors for my LO's 1st birthday. I generally think they are a waste of money and refuse to do them for bridal/baby showers, but the kids may really enjoy them! I think we will have around 20 kids under 5 coming.
Did you do party favors for the other babies/kids (or adults!) at your one year old's birthday? What did you give in your favor bag? What have you received in a favor bag that you thought was a good idea?

I would only do them only if it's not junk... if it's junk and it's just a party favor just to do one, I'd rather not do it at all and consider it a waste of money.
I think board books make great party favors! About $5 each!

I did something simple and cheap. I printed out bookmarks with some owls that I had drawn on them. I think it's fun to have something to take home.
Even little candy or cookie boxes are special.

A friend gave out little puzzles for the kids and cookies for the adults. I thought it was simple and cute. Books would be fantastic if it's not too pricey. A birthday themed book or one that is a favorite of your lo?

We did them.... I'm a big fan of favors though. It was a garden party and I only had 3 girls there so it wasn't a huge deal. I got them a little purse with flowers on it, a book about flowers, and a little potted plant kit that they grow themselves.
Her second birthday party was bow themed and I had bows for them to decorate with fabric paint and take home as their favor.
We haven't been to many kids parties so I don't have any great ideas for you.... but I agree to do one nice thing like a book rather then a bunch of junky things.

We don't plan on it because it's too much extra money for us. Plus it's usually little crappy toys or sugary candy. Books are a nice idea but we have lots of different aged kids so that would be too hard.

If there were quite a bit of kids coming, I would. My niece and nephew like getting bubbles, stickers and temporary tattoos - all of which are fairly cheap

I don't like the plastic baggies full of candy and junk, but I think a little something can be nice. For Fs birthday I'm going to give the kids some homemade play dough: cheap, fun, and not going to go straight in the rubbish bin.

Noooooo... They got to come to your party, eat your food, enjoy the fun and then they need a present?
Nooooooo. No. Excessive.
ETA: I get that it's a "thank you for coming!" But I would rather just say that in person and/or send a note in the mail after the party.

we're doing a trail mix bar as favors. our party is at a nature center and is all woodsy themed so i think it's fitting. and who doesn't love trail mix?

For kids sure. I like edible favors such as iced sugar cookies that extend the theme. I like small toys such as maracas or bubbles. I think favors can be skipped altogether if there is a party activity that is take home like crafts or t-shirt decorating or balloon animals etc.

He had a mustache bash and my mom made little bow ties for all the boys and bow tie headbands for the little girls. We also have them coloring books and bubble wands

Yes but we are having a carnival theme so I bought stuff as prizes: puzzles, books, ect.

We will probably do little favors - I was thinking of doing a sweet treat since we will have a range of ages.

Around here it is the norm to give bags full of candy. The better the candy, the better the party. I am so excited to change it up now that I have a little one to host parties for. I was thinking coloring book with crayons and bubbles. That's just an idea, no clue what we will actually give. There will definitely be candy too, something has to fall out of the piñata we bought 6 months in advance (:

For kids, yeah, I'd do it. DS just had his 6th birthday party, and it was all Star Wars themed, so everything in the bag was SW related.
DS is older, so I just let him pick the goods to put in the bags. I figure he'd know best what boys his age would want in a goody bag, lol.

We did a pinata, so that sorta worked out as our favor. I don't plan on ever doing goody bags for kids parties, though-- either plastic stuff or candy is not my idea of a good parting gift.

Everyone, everyone does it where I am. Bubbles are cheap and provide entertainment for all ages. We did some ideas art sets for the older kids and just puzzle sorta things from ikea for the younger.

My son went to a birthday party where the guests brought gifts to be given to someone else attending the party. I thought that was a fun idea if the birthday child didnt need anything and each kid was able to bring something home. Obviously, this probably works better when all the kids invited are around the same age.

We had about 20 kids of all ages so we just got a bunch of solid colored Mylar balloons from the party store and each kid got to take a balloon home. It was a hit

@hellobeeboston: Yes, I've been picking things up here and there when I found them (mostly Target dollar aisle & Dollar Tree.) I've picked up fun pencils, silly string, glow bracelets, pinwheels, just little things for the different age groups (6 and under.)
I've made a ring toss game, plus we will have bean bags, bucket/ball toss, & a bouncy house.

We're planning LO's birthday and have about 20 kids under 5 coming too! I was just at a 1 year old birthday party and she did bath toys for the really little kids which I thought was cute!

I would skip but I am not a big fan of party favors. Usually I wind up throwing them out when I get them.
