I'm thinking about starting a chapter book with my 5 year old daughter. Any suggestions of books your kids have enjoyed?

Mine loves the Ramona books - we've been reading them in age order starting with Ramona the Pest.

I was just recently thinking of trying a chapter book with my five year old too!
I'm thinking chronicles of narnia or the first Harry Potter..

Fly guy. My son even reads them to us (6 years old and in kindergarten).

My almost 5 year old LOVES the Magic Treehouse Series. The writing is only ok, but I think they will be a good way to introduce specific subject books (i.e., about the places Jack and Annie travel to, etc.)
We also like My Father's Dragon, which is much better quality writing/story.

I think we're going to start Harry Potter with D (4yo). He loves the first 2 movies (we won't let him go beyond that because PoA is when the dementors show up and Voldemort just gets scarier and scarier).

Another vote for Magic Treehouse Books - I don't love them, but my son does:).
For Christmas we gave my 6 year old the first Harry Potter book, but the illustrated one. Beautiful book.

We've also read My Father's Dragon, The Chocolate Touch, Charlotte's Web, and a few others I can't remember at the moment!

@BeachMama: Do you want one that you can take turns reading, or do you just plan to read aloud to her?
There have been some great suggestions so far. Another that my new 6-yo loves is Little House in the Big Woods.

I got my Goddaughter the first Ramona at that age, she loved it - it was good because in the book Ramona is in kindergarten and she liked having a character who was doing the same stuff as her.

We love the Cam Jansen series -- it goes from fairly easy ones to chapter book for grade levels.

@pinkcupcake: I am trying these after seeing them 50% off on cartwheel today!

Kids love The Magic Treehouse series but from an adult perspective I think they are kind of boring!
I like Mercy Watson or anything by Kate DiCamillo. Roald Dahl or Beverly Cleary are always solid choices. I remember my father reading us Catwings by Ursula Le Guin and love it.

@BeachMama: The Dragon Masters, Bad Kitty, The Bad Guys, and Boxcar Children are favorites in my house!

Wow great suggestions! Thanks everyone.
@pancakes: she doesn't read yet, so we'd just be reading it to her
