I have been really lucky to have my husband home as long as he has been, working from home since Andy was born 3.5 weeks ago. He goes back on the road tomorrow, so it will be my first time parenting alone for more than a couple hours. It's going to be just us from 9 am to 7 pm.
I am excited and nervous. Any tips for me?

Don't worry about getting stuff around the house done. It can wait. Nap when he naps, at least once!

Try to squeeze in a shower if at all possible. Even if you don't end up leaving the house, it makes a huge difference in how you feel. And try to go on at least 1 walk if at all possible. And don't expect to get anything done around the house. That was so hard for me to get used to. It gets better as they get older

Definitely don't try to get anything done in the house other than looking after the baby. I used to feel bad that I wasn't cooking and cleaning and getting stuff done, but DH points out that I am doing a lot - I'm looking after our child, which is the most important thing to be doing.

My first day alone I forgot to screw the nipple onto the bottle so when I went to feed her formula went all over her face. She screamed, and I couldn't decide if it was more important to clean her up her feed her because she was hungry (I chose clean). It was a rough start, but we survived, and you will too!

Lower your expectations about everything and go with the flow! If you want to sit around looking at your baby/the tv all day, DO IT! If you want to go window shop at the mall while your baby hangs out in a carrier, do that. Do whatever will make you both happiest and sanest, and forget about what anyone else thinks!

Just take it one hour at a time. I remember giving myself a pat on the back everytime an hour passed. It was good for me to focus on little chunks rather than the whole day. That and -Have snacks handy that you can just grab.

I think it totally depends on your personality, but for me, getting out of the house was key. It was really hard for me to do it... both from an organizational standpoint and from a mental and emotional standpoint... but everything about a day would get better if I could get dressed and out of the house, even for just a short walk.

Have a shower, it does wonders. Also have some food that is easy to grab and eat with one hand, that may be all you have for a while.
Enjoy the day with your baby, even if all you do is sit on the couch.

Just roll with the punches and let your LO take the lead. Also, don't make any plans to get anything doe until you guys have figured eachother out. Give it time

Thanks for the encouragement! We are on day three and I'm feeling pretty good. Nights can get rough, but I'm trying to enjoy this time with the cutie. The first few weeks after delivery were tough so it's a load off my shoulders to start enjoying him.
