Alright, i'm back.
Basically it was a waste of time and excitement.
The US tech was not allowed to tell me anything and turned the screen away while she took pictures to send to my doctor. I cried the entire time she did the US.
I don't know anything. Dunno if there is a heartbeat, dunno if there are multiples, dunno how big it is, dunno anything. I have to wait until Friday when I have my doctors appointment. Why did they have me go here in the first place? My ob has an ultrasound machine. Why why why.
I'm a crying frustrated mess, leaving work now to go pout.

@MrsTiz: How far along are you? My friend got an ultrasound very early (because she was on clomid) and could not see really anything. She didn't find out anything till her next ultrasound which was quite a bit later.

@MrsTiz: Oh man! That is disappointing. Do you think you could call your office on Monday when they have the results and ask for them? That seems so silly to make you go there if they could have gotten the scan done Friday which wouldn't be any sooner anyways!

Grr...I understand that's the U/S tech's job and they can lose their job if they tell you anything. But she couldn't even tell you if there was a heartbeat? Seriously? So mad for you...

@MrsTiz: I'm sorry they wouldn't tell you anything dear! That's got to be so hard!

@MrsTiz: Sorry, just looked at your old post. You should definitely be able to see something by 8 weeks. That's really odd they didn't let you see. I'd call your OB.

@littlek: I'm 9 weeks, I think*
@T.H.O.U.: I just called and left my Dr a message, because this just seems cruel to me. They didn't do a single thing at this visit that my doctor isn't capable of. I don't get it.
@2PeasinaPod: Nope, she wouldn't tell us anything. DH asked "Is that the baby?" and she said she couldn't tell anything. There was no sound, so I don't know if it was off, or nothing to hear. She asked DH for my phone number while I was in the bathroom, I'm sure it was for records purposes, but I can't help but hope shes' going to call me later haha

@MrsTiz: I'm so sorry this seems absolutely ridiculous, these people don't seem to understand what pregnancy is like. Why couldn't they just ease your fears. My u/s tech was the one who told us there was a HB and that it was only one baby.

That's so annoying! I can't believe they wouldn't tell you anything. I'd call your OB and see if they can give you the results. You might still want to change practices - this particular doctor is giving you a lot of unnecessary stress!

@MrsTiz: That is total crap! I would be so pissed off. I don't fault the tech but why in the world would your doctor send you to an ultrasound and then not give you the results for another week. I would be calling the office every day till they tell me something.

I'm so sorry, perhaps there was a previous incident so they're strictly following the rules now.
There are practices where they do them in house, perhaps you could find one for future appointments if you aren't happy with your OB.
Hope you get news soon, and congrats on your bfp!

@MrsTiz: So many hugs. That seems so ridiculous. I hope that you get some answers soon.

@MrsTiz: They typically don't have any sound turned on, and even when they do turn it on, I was told its an artificial noise added to go with the sound waves. So its normal that there wouldn't be sound.

@MrsTiz: I'd be furious. Or like you...crying through the entire thing. Your doctor's office sounds like a real piece of work. Hoping they call you back with some great news and soon to give you peace of mind!

@MrsTiz: Honestly I would call and bug your Dr's office everyday and see if they can tell you anything, if they say a Dr. needs to look at it ask them if they can have one of the other Dr's in the office look at it. I would not hesitate to be pushy in this circumstance, they are being totally unreasonable.
Was it a vaginal ultrasound? If it was I don't think they normally have sound....

I'm so sorry i hope you don't have to wait for your appt for any news!

I would cluster call the doctors office. Everything up until this I think I would have taken alright, but turning away the screen on an ultrasound would make me absolutely furious. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

@MrsStormy: Yeah they started first with a regular, then moved onto doing a transvag one
@Maysprout: Added bullsh*t to the story: their office closes at 12 on Fridays, so they won't answer/call me back until Monday!

You have to wait A WEEK just to know things are ok??? WTF, unacceptable! I'd be all over that office until the doctor calls you back!
ETA- is there any way you can switch clinics? This seems to just go on and on with them.
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@MrsTiz: I'm surprised they would do anything but transvaginal this early. You have to be further along for the transabdominal u/s. Sounds like this person did not know what they were dong. But you should have been able to see a little jumping bean at 9 weeks.
pineapple / 12802 posts
WOW. Totally unacceptable. I would file a major complaint where ever you can.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@lemondrop: I set up an appointment with a new clinic that will be right beside my work, but they are in the process of moving into the new building and are scheduled to call me next week to schedule an appointment. Sooo, i'm keeping this one until I can move into the new/nicer one.

Oh no! I'm so sorry you're going through all of this! I hope this week goes by quickly for you so you can get some answers!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@littlek: I only had stomach u/s. That is all my doctor's office does. I had my first one at 8/9 weeks. I think that it all depends on the equipment they have. We saw and heard the heartbeat.
bananas / 9118 posts
@MrsTiz: glad to hear you will work with a better place soon. I'll be sending happy thoughts to you and little one until you hear more. BIG HUGS!

@MrsTiz: oh my gosh, im so so so mad for you right now, that is ridiclous. i cant believe they couldnt tell you anything and that you have to wait.
at 9 weeks, i had both a trans and regular ultrasound (one with each pregnancy). it honestly just depends on the type of gear they have and how good it is with detecting things...
urgh i am so sorry that they are making you wait but im praying that your baby is doing just fine in there!
oh and totally dont worry about not hearing the sound of the heartbeat, the ultrasound tech have to manually turn that on themselves for you to hear it.

@MrsTiz: ugh, I am so sorry for you! did your DH get a look at the screen? I have my 9-week ultrasound photo if that would help reassure you guys at all I'd be so livid. I know different places have different policies, but all my US techs always let me see the screen and told me what was going on the entire time!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@MrsTiz: Just a thought, do you think maybe you aren't as far along as you thought, and maybe when they told her they were doing a 9 week u/s but only saw a 6 week baby that maybe she didn't want to share that news with you? I was just trying to think of reasons why they wouldn't want to show/share the details.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@T.H.O.U.: that could be true, too - if they didn't want to alarm you?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@littlek: Just wanted to let you know. I don't think it is very common. I am just glad that I didn't have to have it trans-vaginal. I am sure my DH would have been so uncomfortable with that!
persimmon / 1081 posts
@MrsTiz: if it makes you better, i had to get up at 5:30 this morning to get my 2nd transvag u/s in 6 days bc I CAN'T get pregnant. It could always be worse! You won't remember/care about any of this when you have your baby in your arms.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@littlek: I had to have transvaginal ultrasounds until my 12 week appointment. Maybe it depends on the person!
@MrsTiz: I hope they call you back first thing on Monday. Or I would call them as soon as they open.
nectarine / 2750 posts
@MrsTiz: I was excited when I saw they finally had you going in for an early ultrasound but I am sorry about how it went. I have never heard of such a thing. I can't believe they won't even say anything. I know they are just doing their job, but they must have some understanding of how it feels for you. I hope you can speak with them Monday!!
