Which do you use for your pets?
In the warmer months I like to switch to a combo flea + Heartworm pill. Which do you use?

he gets a heartworm shot every 6m at vet.
for flea, we use some topical thing..but he's long haired so it leaves a huge grease mark! gross.

@locavore_mama: we go to banfield, so visits are free (we pay 25/month? includes everything except emergency stuff xray etc).
the shot is i think like $5 more than i was paying for pills. that he would go sneakily hide in his bed.

@sorrycharlie: haha those darn dogs! I should ask how much a shot is in comparison to the pills.

@locavore_mama: definitely! for $5 it was so worth it. I knew it was getting the meds, and less for me to remember.

We use drops (Advantage Multi) that get applied to the skin once per month for 6 months. I have to put a reminder in my phone or I forget! It's a bit of a pain. I didn't even know shots were an option!

We do it the standard way of a Heartworm treat and liquid flea meds each month. We were going to start using Trifexis until we found some bad info on it.

@mediagirl: I was so psyched when I heard about trifexis..my vet shot me down pretty quickly! would have been super convenient.

We put Revolution on his back 1st of the month June to November!
We have tried a couple of the pill options and they make him sick, high maintanance dog, not shocking!

@mediagirl: @sorrycharlie: What's wrong with trifexis?? We used to give it to our dog and thought it worked really well.

@Purpledaisy: I have no idea! haha. my vet just said to stick what what we were using.

@locavoremama: @permastudent: we also used the Bayer Advantage Multi; we got it from our vet with a bulk discount. Unfortunately, we moved and our new vet doesn't carry it so we are back to using an oral heart worm med and a topical flea and tick med.

We use trifexis for our dogs.

We use the monthly heart worm pill and then K9 Advantix. I got a prescription for the trifexis a couple of months ago but when I went online to buy it I found a lot of really bad stories/reviews. @Purpledaisy: A lot of people think that it kills their pets. Its on snopes as undetermined.

We've been using trifexis for over a year with no problems. I like only having to remember to do/buy 1 thing! My dog is 70lbs and it is so expensive though!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: haha seriously. My dog is 65 so everything is more expensive!!
She is due for her yearly checkup so I'm going to ask about the Heartworm shot then. -
Just scheduled her yearly checkup and the heartworm shot is $49/6 months but we also get free worming medicine and a flea & tick collar! The flea & tick collar prevents them from biting & laying eggs and I don't have to put it on 24/7. No more yucky residue on her hair getting on the couch !
That's a pretty good deal for me since her heartworm + flea & tick meds usually cost ~$100/6m!

@locavore_mama: That doesn't sound bad. We are also due to bring our 80lber to the vet this summer. We will probably go with triflexis again.
