Coming up soon we will need to decide how much money to put in our flex account for next year and I am sort of stuck. We are ttc and I think this month is our last shot before having to turn in the paperwork with how much we are setting aside for next year.

I would love to have a home birth which I believe runs around $3500 here and my health insurance won't touch it with a ten foot pole. I am still waiting to hear back from our insurance company for exact numbers but I am fairly certain a hospital birth will only cost a couple hundred dollars in total for the entire pregnancy.

If we aren't pregnant by March of next year my doctor will start running tests on hormone levels at that time. Before my iud I shared my charts with another doctor in the practice and she told me if they looked the same when we were ready for a baby she would put me on clomid. My one complete chart looks the same at this point. My insurance at least covers 1 round of ivf so I would think clomid would be covered but I am waiting to hear back about that too.

Are there other costs that I am not thinking of? In a pinch we could use the money up on things like chiropractor, massage and acupuncture appointments but I would prefer not to spend that much money on those things ordinarily.

So long story short, would you put a bunch of money in a flex account on a wing and a prayer? There is a cap of $2500 next year and we would lose it after March of 2015 if we didn't use it all. It would save us a significant amount on a home birth since it would be tax free and we aren't likely to spend enough on health costs to be able to take them as a deduction on our taxes.
