For those of who that have foam tiles. How many tiles did you get? Did you get enough to cover the entire room? Or just a small area? If you dont mind sharing pictures that would be great too

We bought a foam puzzle for DD just like this one:

Ours is from Ross, and it only cost $13 for 30 tiles plus the edges.

We have enough to cover our living room area, which isn't too huge. Ours are also from Ross. Here's a picture of LO and her Nanny playing on it.

we just have a very small spot covered right now in the corner of the room.

just curious, what is the point of them??
I guess if we had hard floors I might use it.

@Coco Bee: we have tile floors so its nice to have in the living room, especially near the couches because lo cruises on them and still isn't very steady. Also they're just fun to play with. She loves to pull the letters out and play with them.

At first we just had 4, to give him space to roll around a bit. Later we covered most of his floor.we have hardwood floors.

We have some that are similar to @artbee's. Ours came with A-Z and 0-9. Put together, it makes a 6X6ft square. We bought ours at Toys R Us for $18.

@Coco Bee: We have hardwood and use them in DS's play area. If we had carpet, we would have skipped them.

We have about 1/3 of our living room covered in them. I ordered very thick ones from Amazon that were kind of expensive but totally worth it. They've cushioned a lot of really bad falls! Plus they make a GREAT backdrop for pictures

Thanks everyone. Right now we have 6 tiles by sassy shown in the picture below but I'm not too happy with the quality and want to order the thicker ones by Soft tiles.
OUr floors are hardwood and I just dont feel comfortable putting LO on the hard wood directly

I am sorry to say, but years of working in various kindergarten classrooms have turned me off of these.
I dislike the way that they wear down and the fact that they can be 'picked' at. I'm also a bit uncomfortable with wondering if they are unhealthy/toxic...they just seem so fake to me.
I prefer an area rug.

@cvbee: Really? Well the ones by soft tiles are supposed to be really sturdy and they look quite good to me

We have the same ones as @Mrs. Wagon. We have 16- I needed 12 to cover the playroom floor and they come in sets of 8. I love having a "safe" place for LO to play since our floors are all tile.

I bought mine from Soft Tiles and they're great! I got them in brown so that they blend in with our hardwood floors. We have our entire living room covered. We bought 50 tiles. They're AWESOME. Best money spent.

@banana: Glad to hear you like them, did you buy the border tiles that slope as well?
coconut / 8299 posts
@mrs.bells: no, just the regular borders. no issues whatsoever with the non-sloping borders. I bought the reversible ones that are brown on one side and black on the other.

@banana: Thanks! I did go ahead and order a few tiles to make a 8 x 6ft mat which will be a play area for LO. I ordered the borders to go with it

@Mrsbells: I guess it's different having 1 or 2 kids use them vs a class of 20. I'm sure they are excellent for home use. Just turned-ff for me.

I've been researching these (one of the downsides of living in a small town is I have to buy everything online) and wonder about how easy they are to clean.
Is it easier to clean than an area rug? Sadly, they're about the same price here (if I buy a cheap Ikea rug).

i'm not too into the colourful ones, but i've been thinking of maybe getting the charcoal/black coloured foam mats people buy for under thier exercise equipment, sort of like these: http://www.amazon.com/Thick-Multi-purpose-Interlocking-Black-Foam/dp/B003TUBQ0Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1350167356&sr=8-2&keywords=foam+tiles+for+exercise
the colour appeals to me, as well as the fact that they are huge squares, so not so easy to jostle out of place/be picked up, etc.
i wonder what the pros/cons would be for that?

Bumping this thread for more opinions.
Anyone done the skip hop mat? We have hard wood floors and LO has gotten some hard knocks since starting crawling.

I was afraid of the foam tiles being unsafe so we got a large playmat that is soft similar to this. We put it on our carpet.
