Have y'all seen this video? Apparently this mom found insect larvae in an Earth's Best pouch she got at Target this month. I give these to Sadie. I think I might puke.

@pinkb: They're so easy on the go! I can just squirt it right in her mouth and skip the bib/spoon stuff. Now, though, I'm rethinking them!

@photojane: I was just thinking the other day that I would get a few to keep in the bag for when we are out. But something keeps me from getting them..lol. And now this, I just cant. I rather keep packing a little snack for when we go out.

G-R-O-S-S!
I believe you can buy reuseable pouches that you can fill with homemade baby food. That way you can control exactly what's in there, and for how long.

So I opened this thinking it was a progressive company trying out insect protein on purpose... WTF was I thinking.
GROSS!!
@deerylou: I use little green pouches and LOVE them. LO gets one at dinner every night even though he eats table food, he just really likes them and they're easy to make.

It will be interesting to see where this story goes. I don't see how bugs could live in a sealed pouch. If there were maggots or larvae in the product before it was filled and sealed they would have been cooked. Especially in a butternut squash puree, since it's probably a low acid food which requires a serious cook. If the pouch was damaged, larvae could have gotten in but the same in true for any packaged product.
If a baby food manufacturer was going to be really gross and intentionally use raw material with maggots they would just re-puree it rather than "hide" whole maggots in the pouch.

ugh... I can't even open the link. I have bought a few pouches for convenience, but have never gotten even close to finishing one. This just reinforces my wish to keep making our own food.
@photojane: @scg00387: @deerylou: We've been using the Little Green Pouches too and I like the convenience with our homemade purees!

I joked that they came with bonus extra protein via 100% organic maggots ... but my friend who uses the pouches wasn't impressed
