What would you consider a fair price for a comprehensive estate plan (wills, living wills, health care proxies, and durable power of attorney) for both me and my husband. We are in TN if that makes a difference.

@MamaMoose: haha I wish someone had answered you!! Still trying to wrap my head around what we specifically need and none of the lawyers who were recommended to me locally are returning my calls

oh my gosh, I was just researching all this stuff. I wish someone had answered too!

It's hard to know a reasonable price since it's going to vary considerably from state to state and what exactly you're looking for. =/
@scg00387: If no one is returning your calls, I'd try someone else. I usually give someone two phone calls before I decide they're not worth it.

@mrskc: @scg00387: We eneded up getting a full plan (wills, living wills, financial PoA's, health care proxies, and a trust established for our daughter in the case of our death) and we paid $1,000. My parents are in Mass and they paid a similar price for the same things.

We're using the employee legal plan, do you have that available? I think it's no cost, other than the monthly plan fee.

@MamaMoose: I'd say you got a good deal. My parents pad 1500 a couple of years ago.

@LindsayInNY: I swear, this town is RIDICULOUS. Not only is no one/no business online, they never answer or return calls. Across the board; home repairs, fence install, hardwood refinishing. We keep joking that our interloper money must not be worth anything.
@MamaMoose: After reading articles (and blog posts) until my eyes are crossing, I think that is what we're looking for too; a will with testementary trust, living will, and both financial and medical power of attorney. Thank you for sharing the dollar amount!

@looch: I'm not sure what that is? I asked DH to check with his HR department to make sure they don't offer any discounts.

@scg00387: That's insane! If you google STATENAME and "bar association," your local bar should have referrals.

@LindsayInNY: thanks! although, it's a little funny - http://www.iabar.net/AttorneyOnLine.nsf/results?ReadForm&c2=&a=Wills%20and%20Probate it is organized by neither last name nor area, as far as I can tell. Seriously Iowa, shape up!!

@scg00387: it's like a health plan, only with legal services. We signed up this year because we needed an attorney for our house closing. Since we have no limit to the services in a year, we will use them for our estate planning.

@scg00387: That's so bizarre! I know attorneys in a lot of areas but I don't think Iowa is one of those places...

@MamaMoose: thanks for sharing! I for some reason thought it would cost a lot more than that. I have no excuse now. lol
