We got pregnant our 1st month trying... on our honeymoon.

I wouldn't trade my LO for the world, but now that I look back, I think I would have enjoyed just one more year with just my husband. One more year to do some more things that I've wanted to do with him without having to worry about finding a sitter or knowing if I have enough milk pumped... or just to sleep in if I wanted to - haha

We were pregnant a few months after marriage. We are older so we didn't have time to wait. We would have loved a year or two as a married couple but didn't have the luxury.

In your shoes I would probably wait til you are settled in job, but that's just me.

We got pregnant 8 months after our wedding while NTNP. The initial plan was to just let things go naturally and start TTC after a year, but I wouldn't change a thing! It would have been nice to have a year of DINK but at the same time, DH and I dated for 10.5 years before we got married so we've had a lot of us time. Although in hindsight a lot of that was spent long distant for college and the first 2 years of working. All in all it was only a few months early so it worked out well!

We got pregnant 10 months after we first met. 8 months after we got married!
We were a little stressed in the beginning, but the timing was perfect. I feel like DH and I have known each other for 10 years. We were ready for the baby and our LO has made our relationship stronger.

Yes to all three. We had been together for 5 years when we got married, so all we were waiting for was to make it official. FWIW we don't own a home, haven't finished school and will still be moving several more times in the next few years, but it was the right time to start our family.

We got pregnant pretty quickly after we got married, but then I miscarried. I was still pretty pregnant by our first anniversary though with LO. It was all planned, we talked about babies the night we got engaged and agreed we wanted to try right away. We had lived together for a while before we got married, so I think that helped us feel more ready because we did live pretty much like a married couple anyway and had plenty of time together just us.

@dc yoga bee: exactly! We hadn't even been dating a year so I think we both thought it was too early to bring up, didn't want to scare the other person away!

@dc yoga bee: my dh picked our meetaversary to propose, which was a month before we started dating. Caught me off guard because I was waiting until our dating anniversary to start thinking about it. He didn't want to do it earlier though, it was actually a pretty last minute decision. He gave me a family ring that his mom had, so he didn't have to save up, wait for it to be made, etc. Just called up his mom and said he wanted it!

Yes to all three! DH and I have been married for 7 months, and I am 5.5 months pregnant with twin boys.

We talked about our desire for babies as soon as we started dating. We wanted to make sure that the other one was on the same page or it would have been a deal breaker.

We own our own home, have most of our debt under control, and weren't really travelers/partiers so we wanted to start right away. Granted, I was told that I had fertility issues, but I got pregnant nearly 3 months after my wedding and 3 cycles of trying.

While it's scary, it's so exciting and we wouldn't trade it for the world.

We got our BFP a week before our first anniversary and we'd pretty much been NTNP or TTC since the wedding.

We'd been living together for 6.5 years when we got married and having babies was part of the reason we tied the knot

We were married six months before TTC, then it I got pregnant roughly 2 months before our first anniversary. We've been "we" for over three years, though. He was with me through hell and back - I trust him completely (even if I do sometimes vent here.)

It was not exactly planned, but I have Endo and we decided that it was better to have a baby sooner rather than never!

I got pregnant about five months after we got married...

I absolutely feel that we 100% had a good foundation to our marriage and I do not feel that I am missing out on anything. We spent three amazing years together (not married for all of them) before this baby and there is nothing we could want more than to create a family together!
Besides, my DH is almost 30 and he didn't want to wait too long anyways... he didn't want to be an "old dad."

I honestly don't get all of the "prerequisites" for having a baby. Like, "we need to have X amount in savings," or "have X size house," or "go on X vacations to X places...." All a baby needs is LOTS of love, food, and a warm place to sleep at night. I feel totally qualified. As for the money.... well... you will never have "enough" money.

We got pregnant end of May, and our 1 yr fell in September. We did buy a house (actually before we got married!), but I still have TONS of student loan debt (it always seems that we are going to have debt of some sort!). We don't have a savings, etc. I have always said that if you wait for everytihng to be "perfect", you won't ever have kids! If I could go back, the only thing I may have done differently was to be able to get pregnant quicker! We don't have any regrets on starting a family so soon.

We were married Sept 2011 and got our BFP early Nov 2011. Part of me wishes we did wait a year or so, but we had lived together for 3.5 of the 4 years we were together, and I was quickly approaching 38 and didn't feel like I had the luxury of time. We are financially able to handle our LO and are in a house, albeit a bit small. But we are certainly comfortable. I've had a tough go with this pregnancy, so I feel a big bad for my DH some in that way, but this journey is certainly bringing us closer and I don't regret our decision at all.

We got married last May, and got pregnant in January. Yes we planned it, as we were told we might have a tough time conceiving (not the case.) We were going to wait a year, but both felt the pull to start sooner.

We have been living together for 2 years and together for 3, but we were older (27 & 33) so we knew we wanted to start a family sooner rather than later and were financially stable to do so.

@DCYogaBee: DH and I have been together for 6 years--married for 1.5--and I am 22 weeks pregnant. We both were/are financially stable (and stable within our careers), own a large house (really too big for just the both of us, but we loved the extra space), and were planning to get pregnant. Not that those things are requirements, by any means, but they were considerations for us. We are also older (in our mid-thirties), so timing was definitely a factor.

With regard to getting pregnant so quickly after getting a job (if I remember correctly, this would be your first year as a practicing attorney), that presents many additional considerations. First, it really depends on your personal (long-term) career goals and what kind of environment you intend to practice in . . . In some firms, having a baby during your first year could set you back for the entirety of your career (gosh that sounds super doomsday, and I don't mean it to sound quite so harsh). Despite *modern* progress, having a baby early, without having had the chance to establish some *street cred* as a young attorney, could (in some minds) place you (unofficially) in the (widely-acknowledged-but-rarely-openly -discussed) non-competitive mommy category/track.

Ultimately, you will need to weigh your career goals with your family goals, and make a decision based on what's right for *you.* Good luck!

My sister got pregnant in her first year of marriage. They had been together for about 5 years at that point, lived together for 4 and already owned a home. At the time they got pregnant, they felt that their jobs and living situation were stable, so they thought, why not?

However, since that time, they have changed jobs several times, moved several times, gone through several months of unemployment, etc., and I think my sister wonders if those transitions would have been easier / more successful (and more fun) if they didn't have to "worry" about their daughter. As one example, when my BIL lost his job when my niece was 2, they had to move to my parents' city because that's what they felt would be best for my niece -- to be somewhere with family support, with a lower cost of living, where they could live in a 2+ bedroom place while BIL looked for new work. Had it just been the two of them, they probably would have gotten by on just my sister's income, downsized to a studio, eaten Ramen, etc., while my BIL looked for a new job.

Bottom line -- although they adore their daughter and wouldn't trade her for the world (obviously), I think they feel like they missed out on some cool young-couple-with-no-kids experiences... for them, they always had their house to work on, then their wedding to plan, and then right away after that, a baby. They never focused on themselves alone and I think they wish they had.

@chopsuey119: Whoa, whoa, whoa - you got married 2 months after you met?! You crazy girl! But seriously - how romantic And here I thought *I* had a whirlwind romance!

It's surprising to see how many of you mamas got pregs so soon after the wedding! DH & I are coming up on our 2nd anniversary and will have been together almost 4 years. The baby bug has bit me bad, but I still don't feel like we'll be ready for another year or two. We're pretty young though, and finances are tight. Plus, we love to sleep in and take long naps

We got married in January 2011, got pregnant November 2011, miscarried at 20 weeks in March 2012. It was planned. I feel like it had a great foundation, but our next pregnancy will have an even better foundation now that we have gone through a loss of a child. My husband was excited about trying, but until we lost our daughter, he didn't really completely realized how much he wanted our child. He is totally ready for our next child, which we hope will be soon. I would give anything in the world to still have our daughter and I wish I could've carried her full term, but I'm coming to peace with it right now because we had a lot of changes that I don't think would have happened or would have been very difficult if I was almost 7 months pregnant. I'm hoping we get pregnant again very soon and we will have our take home baby sometime next year.
