How did you decide when to have a second baby? Did you base it on a desired age difference? Did you wait until baby #1 was a certain age? Did you wait until you felt "ready" to go through it all again?
Even though LO is only 5 months old, I'm starting to think about baby#2. My mom says that she could have waited a couple of more years before having me (I'm #2) but didn't want to have a big age gap with my brother so they just decided to go for it.
How did you decide?

I only have one, but been thinking about #2 since she's been born 
we're going to wait a couple of years because I just feel like it'll be easier if our first is a little older and more independent. Not a good reason, but I'd also like to wait till she's potty trained so I don't have to buy another set of cloth diapers. And I'd like to lose weight first. I was overweight when. I got pregnant with my lo, and I don't want to do that again.

We've been thinking about #2 since the day LO was born! I'd ideally love to wait until M's 1 years old before I get pregnant. I got my period back 2 cycles ago though so we shall see! Not trying and not preventing.

LO is only 5 months now, but we will start trying for #2 in the Spring. I'd like them close in age. We discussed when we were family planning and so far our plan hasn't changed.

My LO is 20 months and I'm currently pregnant with #2. They will be 2 years 3 months apart. We wanted them relatively close in age so that they can play together and be close growing up.

desired age difference. it would have been easier if charlie were older, but the first two years are hard and i didn't want to start all over with a newborn just when things started to get a lot easier. better to suffer now and get it over with.
charlie was 13 months when i got pregnant. no i did not feel ready to go thru it all again, but i don't think i ever would have!

age difference wasn't a huge factor for us. i know people like to think, the closer in age, the more likely they are to get along, but i think there's other factors more important than that (personality foremost, family dynamics, parent involvement, and other things... maybe even gender).
just like we made the decision to have #1 (waited til we were ready), we made the same decision to have #2.... just when we were ready. it so happened that was around when #1 hit 2.5 years old. my girls are a little over 3 years apart and although my life is pretty busy and hectic 24/7, we're really happy with how it turned out.
for #3, we'll wait til the time is right as well. not sure when/if that is, but if it comes, it comes... if it doesn't, it doesn't.

Haven't had number one yet, but we will likely wait to have at least a 2014 baby for number two so I can rebuild some of my sick leave. I'm guessing we'll see how we feel when number one hits 18 months and try somewhere between there and when number one hits 3 years old.

We want to feel ready before having #2. I don't want to rush just to keep the age gap small. I feel like there is no guarantee that the siblings will be close even with a small age gap. So we'd rather make our lives easier now and have them a bit further apart.

I wish I could have two kids with a 2 year age difference, but at this point in time I really don't think that will be happening. Both DH and I have very intense careers with long work hours. I will also be switching to a new job just after our first baby is born. On top of all of that, pregnancy has been a lot tougher on me that I could have imagined, since the nausea never went away after the 1st trimester. Given all of those considerations, we think it will be best for our family if we wait a little longer before trying for #2. I'm guessing it will be 2-3 years before we even consider trying again, which will at least give me some time to adjust to the next big stage in my career.
