Did any of your doctors suggest or require a 3rd beta to make sure your numbers were high enough to see things during your ultrasound?

Yep - mine did. He wanted to check things out when I was over 6000 because I was spotting and apparently that is the level that there should be something to see in te uterus.

I had a third set just to make sure things were progressing. It was a few weeks later that I had my first ultrasound.

Nope, but I did end up having a third around 5 weeks because of cramping.

Yep - I had 3 betas, each six days apart. My numbers were so low at the beginning (my first beta was 7) that my doctor felt waiting two days would not be enough to see if the pregnancy was progressing properly. Fwiw, I had an u/s at 5w1d and could only see enough to know it wasn't an EP (my doctor's fear), and then another at 6w1d when I saw a hb.

I did not end up having a third one, the nurse was having a hard time finding my vein. She said they used to only do two anyway and the third was a recent addition and optional. Since my first two were doubling nicely she didn't see it has a huge deal not to have the third.

I had two betas with my first baby, and four with this one.

Just two sets with this one and once those showed rising levels we had an ultrasound.

Yes, my beta at 4w1d was 1,000 so my doctor was convinced we would see something on an early ultrasound and scheduled one at 5w (I was spotting since 10DPO). The 5w ultrasound showed a gestational sac in my uterus but nothing inside - I was charting and knew my dates were right. Doctor sent me for another beta that same day (at 5w) and it was 16,000! So even with that high HCG level the ultrasound still didn't pick anything besides the sac up. My level was 26,000 2 days later which is really high for 5w2d so I of course was freaking out (and it didn't double). Went for a follow-up ultrasound at 6w4d and baby had a heartbeat!! I am currently 32 weeks and baby is doing great!
With my first pregnancy (ended in MC) we saw a fetal pole and my HCG was only 3,000 that day (around 5 1/2 weeks). So high HCG levels don't neccessarily mean you will see something on the ultrasound!
