How did your method or routine differ between naps and night time? Did any of your use Ferber for one and Extinction for another?
Also, how did it go? We're about to embark on our journey tonight and need some moral support.

we night and nap trained charlie at the same time. for nights we did ferber. for days we started off doing ferber checks, but found it was easier not to do them. i capped crying at 20 minutes though, unless it sounded like he was settling down. you're supposed to stop a nap if they cry for a whole hour and try again in an hour. i stopped it after 20 minutes (he went down for most naps without any crying), and then let him fall asleep in the stroller.
i don't know if it took longer to nap train because i did that, but at least i didn't have to let him cry too much!
good luck!

@Mrs. Bee: Thank you! I read your post on sleep training Charlie. So if he cried more than 20 min you would reset back to your old way of getting him to nap? I ask because our LO currently still needs to be swaddled and rocked to sleep and needs to be in pretty deep sleep before placed in crib. And even then she will still wake and her naps are usually 30 min or less these days.

@mamajaja: i wouldn't rock him to sleep because that felt worse than letting him sleep in his stroller.
it might be a good time to start weaning the swaddle. we did when we sleep trained at 4.5 months.

@Mrs. Bee: I wish I had something less worse to resort to. So you didn't scrap the nap after crying, you just tried to get him to sleep another way?
We will be weaning the swaddle tonight too. We've tried before and failed miserably, but I know it's time. It's going to be a loooong night.

@mamajaja: yah i didn't scrap the nap, but that's what you're supposed to do so that they don't rely on you to get to sleep another way. but charlie ended up being an excellent napper post nap training so i have no regrets.
we cold turkey'd the swaddle when we sleep trained, and he was fine.
is he rolling both ways? actually charlie started sleeping on his tummy mid sleep training, and once they can sleep on their tummies, their sleep often improves.

I napped trained and ended up not having to sleep train at night b/c he never had any issues at night. I still nurse him and he usually goes down really drowsy and haven't had any issues falling asleep. For naps, I didn't really follow anything except to watch him over the video monitor and just went with my gut whether or not I should go in to get him. I didn't let him cry for more than an hour (per his pediatrician's suggestion). If he does then I just go in to get him and try again in another hour. I read a couple of highly recommended sleep books (Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby was one of them) with my first son but didn't touched it with my second. Just pretty much winged it and tried to remember what I did with my first. Sorry, I know that wasn't much help but that's how I sleep trained my second. He still cries for a few seconds when I put him down for naps but falls sleep within a minute or two after I leave his room. I believe I sleep trained and swaddled weaned at the same time. Good luck!!

For my first we did extinction for both naps and nighttime. She did very well with both. Naps she cried for a few weeks but only a minute or 2 after the first three days . We also swaddle-weaned and paci weaned at the same time. Poor kid. This is not what we did for # 2 but his sleep is not as good..
