It seems like everyone I know with 2 kids have both parents on deck for bedtime especially. This worries me because it is not possible for DH to be home that early. Will I be screwed if I have another kid and need to do this by myself? Haha, tell me the truth!

i cannot imagine putting them both down at bedtime. but your los would be 3 years apart, and that makes a big difference than 2 years apart!

@Mrs. Bee: i know a lot of 3 years apart siblings and the parents do it together, too, although it must be easier than 2 years apart. ugh, i dunno!

@Andrea: No, different things work for different people. Obviously you are already ahead of the game because you can handle your LO by yourself. I can and have, but I prefer hubby's help, as I'm sure most people do if they're around.

@artbee: i actually prefer to do most things by myself with one child right now but i think that will change if i have another one and i might want DH home more.

@Andrea: I'm sure it would be easier so you can each take one LO! I love having my hubby there to help, plus it's fun to get family time. I get sad thinking that when there's two we won't be able to give them the same attention like we do LO because we're always both there giving her tons of attention.

honestly, i am glad my girls are a little over 3 years apart. if the age difference were any smaller, i would've probably gone crazy by now. but you're right, even though my DD is better now that she is older, she still needs a ton of attention and it's hard for me when i'm alone. i do give them their baths at the same time though. i was nervous about it at first, but i have a routine down now. my saving grace is that my little one is pretty chill, except if she's hungry or tired of course.
my DH works long hours... well, he starts at 10am and gets home around 7:30p at the earliest and sometimes still has to work at home after. this is partially why my kids go to bed later than most kids. if they slept any earlier they would almost never see him (and like i said, i'd go nuts).
but my DD also goes to school later than most (10am). it's what works for our family. we don't have outside help or family around at the moment, so it's just me. i usually start dinner and bathtime on my own... DH comes home whenever he can and it's usually during dinner or during bathtime. he usually puts the older one to bed while I put the younger one down. he's also a big help in the mornings. -
@NYCaliMama: yeah, i was just hypothesizing and i was thinking the only way i might not go crazy is to have a later bedtime so it's interesting you chose to do that, too. i saw my nephew at 3 and he was still super high maintenance so i think they just let the baby cry because it was better to work on him first. so i think that "trains" their #2 to be more mellow b/c they never get as much attention from day 1. do you think this is why your 2nd is chill?

my friend with two whose husband gets home at 7 also does a 9pm bedtime. it works for them!

@Andrea: yeah, #2 definitely has learned to self-soothe if she's waiting for me. she is a lot more patient than #1 was at her age just by necessity! i also think #1 has learned to wait a lot more now too. if i am nursing or putting #2 down, #1 has learned to wait and she gets huge rewards for when she does without whining or throwing a fit, etc...
