How long did you wait before having sex? My dr told me to wait 2 weeks to avoid the chance of infection.

My doctor told me we could have sex right away. I think we waited a week due to newborn exhaustion.

Wow 2 weeks?? When I had an IUD I was told I could DTD right away, although I waited a couple of days because I was sore.

Yeah, I thought it was odd. My husband wasn't too happy to hear that. Lol

We weren't told that we needed to wait at all--and DH asked, lol. She did say it might be uncomfortable for a day or two, thanks to the insertion.

Thanks! I feel fine, so hubby and I may not wait that long. I had it put in on Monday and only felt discomfort for a day.

I have Mirena, wasn't instructed to wait after it was put in.

Yep, i was told right away also. Waited a week out of paranoia. Lol

@FancyGem: my dr. casually suggested i wait 2 weeks just to "be on the safe side", but it wasn't a hard and fast rule. i waited because i didn't want to risk the chance of pregnancy whatsoever!

I was told to wait two weeks as well, think it was to make sure it stayed in or something? She also told me to not check for the strings, like ever, which I thought was strange, she said that it can be hard to tell so it's not worth the aggrivation. Anyone else told this in regard to strings? I have had it for 4 months but still terrified of getting pregnant!

@Aimed: I was definitely instructed to check for strings!
I wasn't told to wait for any period of time but I had a little bit of a difficult insertion so I was uncomfortable and spotting/bleeding for a couple days (she had to use something that clamped on and 'grabbed' my cervix to hold it while she did the insertion... not fun).

@lindseykaye: I know - that's what seems to be the norm - now I am worried, seriously do. not. want. to get pregnant so constantly worrying if it has 'shifted' or something and I won't know!

@Aimed: my dr. said the same thing! he said it might unnecessarily cause me stress and worry, and to just come back in two months and he'll check on them for me.
but i have DH to tell me whether or not he feels them, haha. he does feel it in certain positions.

@Mrs. High Heels: That's reassuring that I am not the only one on this! I just went back for a check up (read:I'm beyond paranoid, please check IUD) and she said it was in place and won't move at this stage so I'm praying she's right.

I was told to wait for a couple of weeks. @Aimed: I was told not to worry about checking for the strings. I couldn't feel for them anyways b/c my OB cut them really short. Well... it turns out she probably cut them too short b/c I went in for my yearly physical this week and my regular doctor couldn't find one of the strings. She made me go for an ultrasound to check for the placement of the IUD. It's still there in the right place, but with one of the strings missing it might be problematic to get it removed. Ugh.

@FancyGem: I've had it for about 5 months and really have had no problems other than the terror that it might fail! @skibobrown: Ugh, I'm sorry that it might be difficult to remove but hopefully it won't be a big deal when they do. Why is birth control so difficult!?
