I have a very dear dear friend who is going in for the lap band surgery on Monday. I will be visiting her on Tuesday (which I heard is one of the hardest day post surgery?)
Anyone have any ideas on any neat / speedy recovery gifts I can take her?
Flowers the only option?!

a girl I went to school had this done..she looks fantastic (year+ later) and says she's never felt better. I'm not sure about recovery/gifts, but who doesn't love trashy gossip mags?! best guilty pleasure. or like megwag said, the $4.99 romance novellas are so fun too..maybe a kindle/b&n gift card if she has an e-reader?

When my husband had surgery someone gave him one of those things that is hard on one side and soft on the other so you can put it on your lap as a board to write things on. Does that make sense? That and things to do in recovery, like magazines and word games. And pens.

Fluffy socks, some anti-scar cream/lotion, and something to DO (book, magazine, loaner DVD, crafts, etc.) After my surgery, my mom taught me how to crochet (I made a shawl), and I colored some posters. When I was hospitalized, the loan of a portable DVD player was the BEST thing someone provided. I was also loaned a Kindle, someone got me a notebook and pencils, and one person gave me a stuffed dragon. The flowers my parents sent had to be put out in the lobby (I couldn't breathe well.) Someone also raided all the magazine racks in the hospital and dropped off all the vaguely interesting ones, which was hilarious.

Wow I dont think she can go back to work in a week. I know someone who had this surgery and it takes quite a while to regain your strength since they dont allow you to eat solid foods for the first few weeks

I think gifting her something to do (magazine/book/DVD/puzzle) is a good idea. I'm sure having to stay in bed and rest gets boring.
