LO used to always make a mess taking stuff out of boxes, removing all the shoes from the shelves. She still makes a huge mess, but recently (13 months) she's started putting stuff back where it belongs! Hooray!

Waiting for that day to come with our LO! She's a bit younger than yours But she loves to rip everything off shelves and out of any bin she sees. Why? Why???

Around a year or so. I give daycare a lot of credit for helping to instill the concept. We do sing the clean up song and she likes putting things in containers so we try to capitalize on that and move the container once everything is in before she decides to take it all out again!

@betsyboop: LO is the same. But i see her putting back *some* things as progress!

At 20 months my daughter recently learned the term 'put-way' and has been putting things away when asked and sometimes unprompted.

Just yesterday she started putting some of her sorter pieces back! I'm so happy! However, she only got up to half of it before pouring it all out again. And she doesn't actually sort them, just throws them in without using the lid. But I'm just happy there's some progress!

Around 20-months... that's also when she started going to preschool so I definitely attribute it to that!

It wasn't until my son started daycare and learned the clean up song that he started putting things away purposefully. He was just past 2 years old. I am sure we could have started earlier, but he was always really neat, playing with one thing at a time and it didn't bother me.
I also learned to let go of the mess, sometimes he wants his things a certain way and in some parts of the house, where his toys are, I am okay with that.

Around 16 months but she isn't consistent about it.

Probably 18 months. She is very particular about things and always wants things put away. I leave something out, keep a drawer open, etc and she says "uh oh!" and puts it away or closes the drawer.
