I ordered an ipad from apple store and a smart cover and its turning into a nightmare to actually get it. I guess I'm so used to how easy amazon orders are? Fedex tried to deliver it yesterday and today. They refuse to hold it for pick up because they said the shipper restricted the order so it cant be held for pickup.
I was on the phone with apple for over an hour, at first they said they could request to hold it for me, but later said no they cant, they could try to contact fedex but it takes a minimum of 72 hours to get through to them, I'm not sure why. But they still think I wont be allowed to pick it up.
They tell me my only option to get it is to stay home or to pre-sign the door tag. But we live in an apartment building and I don't feel comfortable leaving the signed slip on the door. I told apple to just have the product returned to them and give me my money back so I can just go buy it in a store, and they stated that the total turn around time on that would be upwards of 21 days and I may not get a full refund. So frustrating!!!
Deliveries from UPS and usps are so much easier than fedex

Really? UPS gives you a hard time to pick it up? Maybe its different depending on region and state -
@Mrsbells: Well, not with Apple but sometimes I will wait at home for an UPS delivery that requires a sig and I'll track the package and it will say unknown address or recipient not at home! It infuriates me!

@Mrsbells: Sorry for your frustration. I guess Apple wants to make sure 'you' get it and not someone else. Sucks that they can't transfer it to a store pick-up.

Can you have them hold the package for you at a FedEx Store/Kinkos?

@mrbee: They said no for security reasons the shipper restricted it so it cant be held for pickup. I wonder why because I would still have to show ID to pick it up

@autumnlove: oh yeah thats true, sometimes i'll be home and will check on the UPS site and it will say attempted delivery no one was home, but they never came or rang the bell! But usually once I call them they are able to resolve it fast

For this reason, I hate ordering online from Apple and using Fedex. We bought iPad mini's for ourselves for Christmas, and the Fedex driver had someone else sign it. Talk about nerve wracking! It was my neighbor, who is super nice, but I didn't know her last name so I rushed home at lunch because I thought some stranger signed for them and stole them.
