I've been thinking of pulling the trigger on a pair of Frye boots but I have thick calves and boots never seem to fit right. Any recommendations on a style of Frye's? Or perhaps a different brand altogether?

I my you are open to shorter boots, I have a pair of shorter Fryes, they come up a bit below my calves. The style is Shirley Strappy Short, but I think it's discontinued. But I looove them. I wear them almost every day through fall and winter, assuming it's not raining or snowing.

@agold: Any particular style suggestion? I'd have to get them online as we live in a very rural area. I'm hoping for something mid thigh.

Do you know your calf measurement? My first Frye's were Veronica tall slouch in the extended calf version. Back then, my calves were maybe 15" around. Since then I've lost maybe 1 or 1.5" from my calves and can now fit into the regular Veronica tall slouch. I still consider myself to have wide calves but the regular ones fit me better at this point. I have also tried the Paige tall riding boots and those work well for wide calves too (just the normal version, which is wider than the normal Veronica). Those were too tall for me (I am very short) but I wish I were taller because they look awesome on other people.

I ended up buying Sam Edelman Penny boots instead of Frye's. Slightly more affordable. I don't have super thick calves, but they're definitely thicker than thinner.

@Finfan: you could buy several pairs on zappos.com and return what doesn't fit. They have free shipping both ways.

@sunshineandsushi: Love those boots! I'm wearing the brown ones right now
@Finfan: I don't have good advice re: the calf size, BUT I just wanted to say that I bought my Frye boots super discounted from 6pm. Definitely worth a look, they have a lot of styles! I got this one in the smooth black and I loooooove them: http://www.6pm.com/frye-lindsay-plate~1

I have thicker calves, and i can fit them (with jeans) into the Melissa button boots (not the zipper). The Paige boots are nice and high, but i agree with @catlady and i find that they aren't comfortable if you have short legs.

I have Frye boots that are the extended calf size. I love them and I have a really hard time finding boots. The ones I have come to a couple inches below my knees.

@Finfan: Sorry, but I've never bought any?
@catlady: how did you lose an 1" off your calves????
@Chuckles: Which style of Frye boots do you have?

AGold: If it's not these, then the ones I have are pretty close http://www.thefryecompany.com/phillip-harness-tall-wide/d/7685001C23524?CategoryId=106
