How long did it take you to remember the names of all the characters? I am only on episode 6 of Season 1 and I am so confused!

I have read the books so it's ingrained in my mind, but after watching the first season, I have often wondered how people who don't read the books follow it at all! LOL

I read the books but my husband hasn't and he can never remember all the names.

We have watched it from the very beginning on HBO, plus I read the first book after watching the first season.... I still get them confused all the time!

The best advice I read before starting watching was don't try to learn all the characters names, because you'll get overwhelmed and miss important details. There's an "honest trailer" on youtube (but with seasons 1-3 spoilers) that makes fun of the fact that most people only know like the 10 main characters names. It calls the rest of them like "The Sneaky Guy", "The Sneaky Bald Guy", etc.

Oh don't worry yourself, a lot of the non main characters looked the same to me. And then they switched actors for someone and I was SO confused for a while.

I watched one season on HBO OnDemand and turned on the Closed Captions. Seeing the names in print while people were saying them was a really good way to reinforce if you're a visual learner!

I had read the books so the names are ingrained now.

I absolutely call them by nicknames. "You know, the one who tried to kill ____, but ended up getting down with ____." Only way to discuss GOT.

I've watched all the seasons of GoT and still do not know everyone's name. At first we started making up names for people just to make sure we got the storyline correct. Now we know a pretty good chuck of the character's names. I still like using our made-up names though.

LOL! I was confused until the middle of the second season. I still don't know all the names, but I know who they are (mostly).

Seen them all, and I'm still confused at times. I KNOW the characters, but I'm not sure I could sit down and name them. Except for Joffrey, because he's a world class douche.

I've read the books AND watched the show, and I still don't think I know everyone's names! I know the main ones (the Lannisters and Starks), but Stannis' right hand man? Yeah, he's the Onion Knight to me (from the book) - I can't remember his name. And all of Dany's people? Definitely don't know all their names (or really any of them). And then they're always adding people - Oberon's people?? Forget it - I don't know any of their names.
