That looks just like my son's teeth. He's been to the ped and dentist several times and they never said anything.

@photojane: we asked our dentist about this, bc LO has a lip tie too. He said that they would never recommend clipping it at such a young age because of fears of tooth spacing or speech issues, because the jaw shape changes as they grow, and the gap can disappear as the adult teeth come in. So I wouldn't worry about it yet!

I asked our ped (Liv has the same thing) and she said there wasn't a need to do anything. That maybe when she gets braces down the line but for now it's fine. I do notice she has a slight lisp sometimes but hard to tell if it's from that or just being a toddler. Lol.

@sorrycharlie: A has a lisp too! Maybe it is related? I'm not too worried about it tight now because it could just be a toddler thing like you said. It's pretty adorable.

Both of mine have this (the tie and the gap), our ped dentist wasn't concerned at all. He said a lot of times kids actually fall and split the tie on their own (yikes!) but at this age, no need to worry or do anything...

My LO had his lip tie and tongue tie corrected, and it was no biggie!
Maybe see what the dentist says when she goes? Unrelated: She is SO cute! Her pics make me smile

@Trailmix: my pedi also said they often rip on their own (ouch!).

@Trailmix: that's what our ped said too. LO had a lip tie and tounge tie when she was younger, caused us some BFing issues that we pushed through bc I was too nervous to have it cut, and her lip tie ended up ripping on its own when she fell around a year.

My LO's mouth looked the same and both the lactation consultant and ped said it was a lip tie... however, neither they nor the ENT I consulted suggested I do anything about it because she was a little older (close to a year). They said she would need to be put under to do it (though I have heard there are places you can get it done where they don't put them under). We are just going to wait and see. I don't forsee it causing speech issues, but maybe we will want to address it for cosmetic reasons, I don't know.

@rachiecakes: Mine looks exactly like yours! Except my gap between my teeth came back after I had braces because I never wore my retainer.

This is a picture of a sever lip tie. There are different classifications. Some cause more issues than others. Not everyone has the same lip tie.

This is my LO at 7 months. She still has a gap now, but it's smaller.

@photojane: that's the same advice I got from our pediatrician. I think because everyone is different and develops differently, they can't really say at when they're really young. Some grow out of it, some don't and you really don't know.
If you have a lip tie like I do but your teeth were fine, she likely has a pretty good chance that hers will do the same.
It's funny you say that about her heart-shaped tongue, it's never been mentioned by the doctor or even the LCs I had, but J has one too (and a very slight posterior tongue tie, but we didn't clip it/notice it).

So I would say she's a class three lip tie. It doesn't come down through the space between the teeth and connect to the underside/ behind. This classification can be grown out of,but it's hard to say for sure. Primary teeth do need some slight spacing between. More than likely if she had it removed before those primary anterior central incisors came in she might not of had such a larger space. I would talk to your dentist, there's no such thing as too early when you have questions concerns in regards to LO's dentition. Most likely they will tell you to just wait and see. There's no emerg regarding this situation that would warrant exposing your Lo to X-rays (radiation) to see how her Permanent dentition is sitting. A panoramic x-ray would show all the teeth she has right now in her maxillary and mandible. @photojane:

The heart shaped tongue is also associated with a posterior tongue tie. a lot of times it is overlooked and discovered when the mother and child struggle with BFing.
I personally believe that it would save a lot of mama's a lot of heart ache and head ache if hospital nurses could be trained to spot these things.
My boss even got into an argument after giving birth to her son. She said to the nurse " he's looking tongue tied' the nurse responded with "no he's fine there's nothing there" my boss said "are you sure?" and the nurse snapped at her " what's it too you, like your a dentist or something" My boss what like " ya as a matter of fact I am". My boss lazered her son that week.
They did not have to sedate him. The procedure took 5 min. The lazer actually cauterized the tissue immediately and it acts as an analgesic. There's very little pain, more just uncomfortable.

LO had a lip tie and we had it clipped at 6 weeks and she still has the gap.

I had no idea my LO had this until now. I had noticed there is a big gap between the two front teeth. I have had a relatively easy time breastfeeding, the only symptom I have had is that LO has always taken a long time to eat for his age. I did have pain and trouble latching early on, but I think it was in the normal range.
