I just found out that I am GBS positive. Anyone else go through this? The literature online is scary (as most is) so I'd apprecate some real feedback/advice/guidance. Thanks!

I was GBS positive with DS. It is very common and you will recieve antibiotics in an IV during labor and delivery. It really wasn't a big deal and DS was fine.

I was, and it wasn't a big deal. The basic premise is go in to the hospital as soon as your water breaks (if your contractions aren't already close enough to have sent you there). They stick in the IV and get the antibiotics flowing. If your labor goes long, you may get additional doses.
It's totally common and not something to worry about!

Thanks - it's good to hear from people who also had to deal with it!
So does that mean you're connected to an IV from the time you arrive until you give birth?

@gingerseaglass: I'm sure they can do a Hep Lock. With DS I was also induced so I was connected the entire time to an IV recieving pitocin and fluids.

I was GBS positive. It's really common. They did a hep lock for me at the birth center. I had two doses of antibiotics, and then they disconnected the IV when I wasn't getting the doses. It was not a big deal for me at all, I still had a med-free delivery. Also, they did a few extra checks of my baby for infection after he was born, but nothing big.

no big deal-- you just need to be on antibiotics for about 4 hours before delivery happens. I was negative the first time around, but developed a fever during delivery so they think I contracted it sometime during my first pregnancy, because I was positive the second time!

I had GBS, and at first I was totally freaked out, but it's so not a big deal. They told me to make sure I went to the hospital ASAP if my water broke so they could get me started on antibiotics. The only thing is, I think LO and I caught thrush from the antibiotics so our first month breast feeding was just horrible Other than that, GBS didn't affect us at all.

I don't want to scare you unnecessarily, but I had no idea this was even a possibility since everything I read about GBS was that I'd just get antibiotics 4 hrs before delivery.
I was GBS and it infected my placenta and caused fetal distress which resulted in an emergency C-section. Also, because it was in the placenta, both me and LO had to have antibiotics immediately.
I never got the chance to ask my doctor how it infected my placenta and if it was something I did during the days leading up to the delivery and if there was anything I could have done to prevent it from happening.
