Does/will she know gender? That may make a difference (my aunt had a girl then twin boys, so she had no clothes.) What things might she need more than one of? A second bouncer? a second high chair? It may be worth just asking her, and I think in this experience it may be best if she registers! (I'm not a hug fan of showers/registries for second kids especially close together but I think twins calls for it because you clearly will need 2 of some things that you'd only need one of for a "single" baby!)

@kjpugs: agree! Depending on your budget, I would look into gear like a 2nd infant car seat or high chair or contributions towards those types of items. Otherwise, I would get a gift for her along the lines of a pedi, foot massage or hair cut gift certificate.

@Anagram: yikes! My aunt did that too! We scrambled and had tons of stuff for her before she even got home She ended up having another surprise baby after her IVF twins (another girl) and now has surprise twins again she's due with.... and team green for ALL OF THEM. I don't know how she does it.

@Anagram: I would say if you don't know her well, just get her a gift card. Surely she will have to shop at BRU, BBB, or Amazon/Target type stores for both big items and diapers, so that can't go wrong.

@Anagram: maybe in the card write something like how you can't wait to send over some adorable twin outfits when they arrive! Or I have seen cute twin onesies that say "BABY" and in one the A is another color and on the other it's the B, so it's like they're saying BABY A and BABY B. Those are fun too, maybe you could get some unisex twin onesies and send with a gift card.

If you could get some other people in the Mom's group to go in with you, I'd seriously have killed for a housecleaning service or meal delivery!

@Anagram: I have a toddler and b/g infant twins.we have everything from my son and a ton of hand me downs from my co worker that i never had to buy clothes. The little things we have needed has been an insane amount of diapera and wipes. We seriously go through wipes like its the thing to do plus my toddler isnt potty trained yet. We got a double snap and go for $50 and that is a huge help with quick drs appointments and errands for now. We also got a bottle warmer that we didnt need with one. The bottle warmer is way better than heating on the stove. We have been ordering all of it off amazon. Even our insane double stroller. Maybe an amazon gift card. We also needed way more burp cloths. But my twins have reflux this time around and spit up a lot. As a second time mom with a toddler and twins we have tried to be as minimalistic as possible. Dont know if your froend is like that. I dont know if any of that helped but that is what we are currently going through
