We finally are getting super close to finalizing our adoption of O. We will be giving thank you cards to a few long term social workers, but our FFA social worker has been with our family for over 2.5 years and she has become a very close friend (I know, dual roles, blah blah 
) I'd like to get her something special, maybe from Etsy. I can't think of what would be appropriate though, so I'm hoping some of you have some ideas!

Gifts can be a tricky area, they are an often discussed topic in social work ethics, and some agencies have specific guidelines regarding the monetary value of the gift.
That said, the best gifts I've ever received from clients were heartfelt cards and letters. I have saved them all. -
I'd ask O to make a card. And I would get her a key chain of something that would remind her of you guys or something she loves. Then it's just a small token and won't rub against any rules of monetary value

Not sure about ethics rules, but I can't accept anything of value. Not even coffee. And treats must be set out to share. So I'd do a heartfelt thank you note.

Maybe do a shrinky dink project and turn it into a keychain. O can make something, and then it shrinks to keychain size.

@Mrs. Turtle: what about a christmas ornament representing O? (It she celebrates). That’s inexpensive and meaningful and she’ll think of your family each year when she pulls it out.

@Mrs. Turtle: I totally forgot the one gift I got to keep. My team made me a mug. You could have O draw a picture and turn it into a photo mug. I love mine and use it every day.

If you use oil based sharpies you could have O draw on a coffee mug or something like that-then you bake it and it's permanent.

I bought a small stretched canvas (at Target!) and had my daughter scribble on it with paint makers. Made a fantastic gift. This was for Father’s Day, but my husband loved it—and he is not the mushy type. Planning to do this again for Christmas this year for the grandparents.
You can write a heartfelt (albeit short) thank you on the back.
