We have a family member who just gave birth to their 3rd LO. We're trying to figure out what to send - they don't have a registry and I'm guessing they have all the basic 'gear' they need. They live on the other side of the continent so we can't bring over food. I'd love to send them food but not sure how to do that either short of a cheesy fruit basket or something. Any ideas??

You could call a local restaurant that delivers and let them know that dinner is on the way. That would be awesome.

I should also mention that they are in another country too so that makes charging food to a US cc more complicated... we'd probably have to buy something locally and ship it or order it online. Thanks for the help

My husband's aunt sent us a gift basket full of snacks and sent DS one slammed full of candy and toys...she got them from here: http://www.winecountrygiftbaskets.com/ but I'm not sure they send to where they live?

How about a basket of necessities like baby socks, plain white onesies, diapers, toiletries, Tylenol?

What about something persinalized? The baby will have tons of hand me downs so it would be nice to have something just for baby #3. We got a persinalized picture frame for lo that I love. It has her name, height, and weight on it.

What about stuff they can't get in their country? Maye some American treats in addition to a personalized blanket or burp cloths for the baby? I'd find something unique on Etsy, and throw in a couple of items for the parents

These are great ideas guys, thank you!! All 3 LOs are boys, so something personalized is perfect because he's going to be getting nothing but hand-me-downs. We'll probably go with a picture frame or blanket with his name and birthday, plus maybe an edible arrangement or something fun to eat.

@JoJoGirl: you should be able to use an American card to pay. Fyi- You will likely be charged a Foreign transaction fee of 1-3% by your bank, unless you have a card that waives those fees.

@sunny: DH is from Canada and has had trouble in the past sending gifts to his parents from the States.. either with shipping across the border on a US site or using a US credit card on a Canadian website (amazon, etc). I think he has a system down now for ordering online but contacting a restaurant would likely be too annoying.

@JoJoGirl: Amazon.ca doesn't allow a US credit card? I'm really amazed by that. They're such a big company. Regular Amazon hasn't had a problem with my Cdn card. Although, there is a surprising amount of stuff that they won't ship to Canada. Unless they live in middle-of-nowhere Canada, you should be able to find a place that delivers food baskets. I think that would be so fun to get!

@Grace: As of a couple of years ago he had trouble with it, but maybe it's changed? Yeah hoping we won't have too much trouble with the food basket! Looking on Etsy now for frames and may have a similar issue with shipping to Canada, a lot of folks won't do it (found one that will for $20!! For a $15 frame! Grrr).

BTW - shipping in Canada tends to be a lot costlier than it is in the US. Maybe thats why Canada Post is solvent while USPS isn't?

I loved personalized stuff for my third, but food trumped all in the first month or so LOL Less work for mom is always appreciated!!
